Present at roll call: Councilmen: Owens, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Morden, Lamm, City Attorney Tscharner and City Clerk. Absent: None. Each member present acknowledged receipt of a written copy of the minutes of April 17th and April 18, 1944. The Mayor asked if there were any objections or corrections to said minutes. There being none, the minutes of April 17th and 18, 1944 were approved as written. Councilmen Morden, offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA DETERMINING THAT THE PUBLIC INTEREST AND NECESSITY REQUIRE THAT CERTAIN PORTIONS OF SAN GABRIEL AVENUE AND FIRST STREET WITHIN SAID CITY BE RESURFACED FROM GAS TAX FUNDS ALLOCATED BY LOS ANGELES COUNTY TO SAID CITY FOR THE 1943-44 FISCAL YEAR. 7:30 P.M. Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Councilman Owens, this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered - Resolution No. 1820. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: 'Jwens, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Morden, Lamm. Noes: None. Absent: None. ROLL CALL MINUTES APPROV- ED. RESOLUTION NO. 1820 ADOPTED. Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Councilman Owens, the City Clerk be authorized and instructed to CLERK INSTRUCTED advertise for 1900 tons of plant -mixed surfacing. TO ADVERTISE Carried by the following vote of the Council: FOR BIDS. Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Morden, Lamm. Noes: None. Absent: None. Councilman Owens offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA AGREEING TO CERTAIN TERMS WITH THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT THROUGH ITS UNITED STATES ENGINEER OFFICE RESOLUTION NO. FOR REINFORCING THE CITY'S LIGHT AND POWER SYSTEM AND 1821 ADOPTED. FOR THE FURTHER EXTENSION THEREOF. Moved by Councilman Morden, seconded by Councilman Jumper this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1821. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Morden, Lamm. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by -Councilman Morden, seconded by Councilman Jumper the City Clerk be authorized and instructed to advertise for bids on material for the construction of an electrical transmission line. Carried by the following vote of the Council: CITY CLERK IN - Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Jumper, Memmesheimer, STRUCTED TO Morden, Lamm. Noes§ None. Absent: None. ADVERTISE FOR BIDS. Superintendent V. D. Smith addressed Council relative to the value of the installation of capacitor units to relieve line loss. Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Councilman Morden the Clerk be instructed to CITY CLERK IN - advertise for electrical equipment necessary for the STRUCTED TO installation of capacitor units. Superintendent of Streets, Arthur Wolfe, addressed REPLACEMENT OF Council relative to the replacement of pavement PAVEMENT ON on Irwindale Avenue in the City of Azusa. IRWINDALE AVE. Chief Williams addressed Council relative to the repair of the 1939 Dodge Sedan. He was REPAIR OF POLICE requested to secure further information to be DEPARTMENT DODGE. - presented to Council at the next regular meeting. Councilman Owens, called Councilts attention to the new State Law relative to the organization COUNCILMAN OWENS of Civilian Defense, where the Mayor, Police RESIGNED AS Chief and Fire Chief have been made the officers CHAIRMAN OF In charge, and he therefor offered his re- CIVILIAN DEFENSE signation as Chairman of Civilian Defense. Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Council- man Morden, Council accept this resignation with regret and commend CouncilmanOwens upon work well done.
