Present at roll call: Councilmen: Owens, Jumper, ROLL CALL Memmesheimer, Morden, Lamm, City Attorney Tscharner and City Clerk. Absent: None. Each member present acknowledged receipt of a written copy of the minutes of May 1, 1944. The Mayor asked if there were any objections or corrections to said MINUTES AP - minutes. There being none, the minutes of May 1, 1944 PROVED. were approved as written. ' The Clerk announced she has received two bids in answer to "Notice calling for bids on capacitor units." Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Councilman BIDS Owens, the bids be now opened, examined and publicly declared. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Morden, Lamm. Noes: None. Absent: None. MAYDWELL AND HARTZELL COMPANY For 25 primary fuse cutouts and 25 fuse links - - total - $154.00. A certified check in the amount of $7.70 accompanied this bid. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC COMPANY 24 fire proof capacitor units - - - - - - - $ 67.70 each 8 capacitor brackets - - - - - - - - - - - 6.30 24 cutouts- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 6.21 25 It It - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 5.87 A certified check in the amount of $100.00 accompanied this bid. Moved by Councilman Morden, seconded by Councilman Memmesheimer, the bids be referred to the Chairman and Superintendent of Water and Light Departments, Chairman of Purchasing and City Engineer, with power to act; also the City Clerk be instructed to return bid check to unsuccessful bidders. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Morden, Lamm. Noes: None. Absent: None. The Clerk announced she had received one bid in answer to "Notice calling for bids on 1900 tons of Plant -mixed surfacing." Moved by Councilman Owens, seconded by Councilman Jumper, the bids be now opened, examined and publicly declared. PACIFIC ROCK AND GRAVEL COMPANY To furnish all materials, mix, haul and truck spread on streets of City of Azusa, for $2.28 per ton. Cash discount of 20 cents per ton on Plant -mix allowed if paid in full the 15th day of the month following date of delivery of order or any portion thereof. The above prices do not include California State Sales Tax. A certified check in the amount of $215.00 accompanied this bid. Moved by Councilman Owens, seconded by Councilman Jumper, Council accept the bid of the Pacific Rock and Gravel Company. BID OF PACIFIC ROCK AND GRAVEY COMPANY ACCEPT- ED. 1 MINUTES OF MEETING HELD MAY 152 1944 continued------ 83 The Clerk announced she had received three bids in answer to "Notice calling for certain material for the construction of a transmission line." Moved by Councilman Morden, seconded by Councilman Memmesheimer, the bids be now opened, examined and BIDS publicly declared. JOSLYN COMPANY OF CALIFORNIA ' Items 4-12-14-17-18-20-24-25 oftheproposal were offered at a total cost of - - - -$445.47 No certified or cashier's check accompanied this bid. J. H. A certified check in the amount of $286.55 accompanied this bid. _ Moved by Councilman Owens, seconded by Councilman Memmesheimer these bids be referred to the Chairman and Superintendent of Light and Water Departments, Chairman of Purchasing and City Engineer, with power to act; also the Clerk be instructed to return bid checks to.the unsuccessful bidders. A letter of appreciation from the Azusa Woman's Club LETTER ORDEREI was read and ordered placed on file. PLACED ON FILE A letter from the Clerk of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors relative to the appropriation of $2,527.78 for the improvement of certain streets, was read and ordered placed on file. A "NOTICE OF FILING OF REFEREE'S FINDING OF FACT AND RECOMMENDATION" relative to the hearing on protest of RECOMMENDATIOD Al Grant's application for on sale liquor license was ON APPLICATIOD read and ordered placedoon file. FOR ON SALE A communication signed by Wm. J. Holden, relative to LIQUOR. the condition of Eleventh Street was read. This matter was referred to the Superintendent of Streets. Mr. Putnam, President of the Azusa Publid Library Board, addressed Council relative to an increase in LIBRARY the Library apportionment. Council agreed to pay the APPROPRIATION, light and water bills for the Library and to pay the Janitor's salary. ' Councilman Owens, offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, RESOLUTION LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 1822. No. 1817. Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Councilman Memmesheimer this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1822. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Morden, Lamm. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Morden, seconded by Councilman Memmesheimer the following requisitions be allowed: 1844 - 1853 inclusive and 1782 - 1789 inclusive.
