The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session at the above time and place._ Present at roll call: Councilmen: Owens, Memmesheimer Morden, Lamm, City Attorney Tacharner and City Clerk. Absent: Councilman: Jumper. 7:30" P.M. - 99 ROLL CALL Each member present acknowledged receipt of a written copy of the minutes of the regular meeting of June 19th and the regular adjourned meeting of June 26, 1944. The Mayor asked if there were any objections or corrections to said minutes. There being none, the minutes of June ' 19th and June 26, 1944 were approved as written. Mr. E. B. Griffith, representing the San Gabriel River Spreading Corporation addressed Council relative to the cost of spreading water from the San Gabriel River. Moved by Councilman Owens, seconded by Councilman Morden, the City pay to the San Gabriel River Spreading Corporation the sum of t3OO.00 per year until revoked by this or future Councils to compensate the further expense in spreading water which inures also to the benefit of the city. .Carried by the following vote of the Council; Ayes: Councilmen; Owens, Memmesheimer, Morden, Lamm. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman: Jumper. Mr. LeRoy Clark addressed Council relative to the operation of a pool hall on Azusa Avenue. Moved by Councilman Morden, seconded by Councilman Memmesheimer, Mr. Clark be granted a city license to operate a pool hall. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Memmesheimer, Morden, Lamm. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman: Jumper. ' A notification of Alcoholic Beverage License Application from State Board of Equalization transferring an on sale beer license from Al Grant to Manuel Torres at #301 Dalton Avenue, was read. Mr. Torres being present addressed Council relative to a business license to operate a Cafe. No action taken in this matter. Councilman Owens, offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA LOS ANGELES COUNTY CALIFORNIA, TRANSFERRING THE SUM OF TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS ($2000.00) FROM THE LIGHT FUND TO THE LIGHT RESERVE FUND, TRANSFERRING THE SUM OF TWELVE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($12000.00) FROM THE LIGHT RESERVE FUND TO THE LIGHT FUND; ALSO TRANSFERRING THE SUM OF'EIGHT THOUSAND DOLLARS (08000.00) FROM THE WATER -RESERVE FUND TO THE WATER FUND. Moved by Councilman Owens, seconded by Councilman Memmesheimer, this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1826. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Memmesheimer, Morden, Lamm. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman: Jumper. Councilman Morden offered a resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OP -THE CITY OF AZUSA AUTHORIZING AND'DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO PURCHASE CERTAIN SERIES "C" WAR BONDS WITH FUNDS OUT OF THE LIGHT AND WATER FUND OF THE SAID CITY OF AZUSA. Moved by Councilman Owens, seconded by Councilman Memmesheimer this resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1827. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Memmesheimer, Morden, Lamm. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman: Jumper. Councilman Morden offered a resolution entitled: MINUTES APPROVED CITY TO PAY $300 ANNUAL- LY TO SAN GABRIEL RIVER SPREADING CORP. MR. Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Council- RESOLUTION man Owens, this resolution be adopted as 'read and NO.1828 numbered Resolution No. 1828. ADOPTED Carried by the following vote of the Council: BOARD OF Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Memmesheimer, Morden, Lamm. Equalization. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman: Jumper. Moved by Councilman Morden, seconded by Councilman ' Owens, the City Clerk be authorized and instructed CITY CLERK to advertise for bids on 500 feet of W - 3 ply INSTRUCTED TO United States Standard thread fire hose. ADVERTISE FOR Carried by the following vote of the Council: BIDS ON FIRE Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Memmesheimer, Morden, Lamm. HOSE Noes: None. Absent: Councilman: Jumper. 9:30 P.M Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Council- man Owens, Paul Nichols be employed as Patrolman, effective as of July 7, 19440 his salary to be $180.00 PAUL NICHOLS per month for the first two months, $185.00 per month EMPLOYED AS for the next two -months and $190.00 per month beginning PATROLMAN November 1, 1944 and thereafter until further action of the Council. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Memmesheimer, Morden, Lamm. Noes: None, Absent: Councilman: Jumper. It was unanimously agreed the City Clerk be instructed REQUEST FOR to write the Selective Draft Board requesting DEFERMENT FOR deferment for John Poetker, whose work with the City JOHN POETKER is considered essential. Council instructed the City Attorney to write the ' Pacific Electric Company requesting.the installation MATTER REFER - of a light at the Pacific Electric Depot on the RED TO CITY corner of Ninth Street and Azusa Avenue. ATTORNEY Moved by Councilman Morden, seconded by Councilman Memmesheimer, Council resolve itself into a Committee of the Whole, for a period of ten minutes. COMMITTEE OF At the end of this time Council reconvened and THE WHOLE resumed the meeting. Moved by Councilman Morden, seconded by Councilman Owens, the following requisitions be allowed: 1863 -1864 -1865 -1866 -1867 -1888-1869-1870-1871-1872- 1873-1874-1875-1876-1877-.1878-1879- 1921-1922.
