Present at roll call: Councilmen: Owens, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Morden, Lamm, City Attorney Tscharner ROLL CALL and City Clerk. Absent: None. Each member present acknowledged receipt of a written copy of the minutes of September 5, 1944 and Sept- ember 18, 1944. The Mayor asked if there were any objections or corrections to said minutes. There be- ing none, the minutes of September 5 and 8, 1944 were approved as written. MINUTES APPROVED A communication from the State Compensation Insurance Fund relative to dividends denied the City on Policy COMMUNICATION for 1942 due to accident sustained by Gail Cleve- ORDERED PLACED land, was read and ordered placed on file. ON FILE. A request to build an addition to the house located at #200 Soldano Avenue was read. Moved by Councilman Morden, seconded by Councilman Jumper this matter be referred to the Planning REQUEST REFERRED Commission to report back. TO PLANNING Carried by the following vote of the Council: COM14ISSION Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Morden, Lamm. Noes: None. Absent: None. It was unanimously agreed the matter of improvement now being constructed by Mr. Straub at #929 Enid IMPROVEMENT Avenue be referred to City Attorney Miller and the REFERRED TO Building Inspector to report back. CITY ATTORNEY AND BUILDING A communication from the Local Planning Commission INSPECTOR. recommending the replanting of oak trees in the place of bottle trees on San Gabriel Avenue south of the Santa Fe tracks, was read. Moved by Councilman Morden, seconded by Councilman Jumper Council accept the recommendations of the Planning Commission and refer the replanting on San Gabriel Avenue to Councilman Owens. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Morden, Lamm. Noes: None. Absent: None. Mr. Rolla E. Clapp addressed Council relative to the purchase of County and State Tax Deeds on some 300 NIR. CLAPP lots, more or less, located in Paramount Heights ADDRESSED Tract. COUNCIL. It was unanimously agreed Council refer this matter to the City Attorney. Mr. John Kerns Bennett Of J'=1111 Niest Broadway -Ave:;, Azusa, addressed Council relative to Resolution No. 1840 adopted by Council on September 18, 1944. Mr. Bennettasked that Resolution No. 1840 be rescinded MR. BENNETT and the Azusa Rock and Sand Co. be denied a building ADDRESSED permit to erect a new rock crusher on their property COUNCIL. located in the Southwest prrtion of the City. Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Council- man Morden this matter be referred to the Planning Commission and City Engineer to make complete invest- igation; to make necessary surveys on location of property lines in connection with the existing rock crusher, and as they apply to the proposed structure. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Morden, Lamm. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Owens, seconded by Councilman Jumper the City Clerk be instructed to virite the CITY CLERK TO Azusa Rock & Sand Co. notifying them that an NOTIFY AZUSA investigation as to the legality of the Building ROCK SAND Permit issued them, and the legality of their acts C)MPANY under Resolution #1840 are in progress. , CITY HALL, AZUSA, CALIFORNIA, MONDAY, OCTOBER 2, 1944 131 Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes; Councilmen: Owens, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Morden, Lamm. Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Councilman Memmesheimer the City Clerk be authorized and instructed to advertise for bids on an Automatic CITY CT,ERK Starter and Control Equipment for the City Pumps. ' It was reported that Pacific Electric Railway Co. .had not installed a light at the Depot on the INSTALLATION OF corner of Azusa Avenue and Ninth Street, also the LIGHT AT DEPOT. Santa Fe had not yet improved the crossing on .Azusa Avenue. Councilman Owens offered an Ordinance entitled: .AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ORDINANCE READ AZUSA, CALIFORNIA, REPEALING ORDINANCE NUMBER FOR FIRST TIVE. .372 OF SAID CITY OF AZUSA. to be placed on its first reading. This Ordinance was then read for the first time. .Councilman Memmesheimer offered an Ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE RELATING TO UNSAFE BUILDINGS MAKING UNSAFE BUILDINGS A NUISANCE, PROViDING FOR THE REMOVAL AND DEMOLITION OF SUCH BUILDINGS AND TEE ORDINANCE READ ABATLTIENT OF NUISANCES AND PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR FOR FIRST TLI:1E. VIOLATIONS OF THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THIS ORDINANCE. to be placed on its first reading. This Ordinance was then read for the first time. Councilman Morden offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA ASSIGNING THE DUTIES AND FIXING THE SALARY OF WALTER H. LOVELACE AS POLICEMAN ON THE POLICE FORCE OF SAID CITY AND RESCINDING A PART OF RE- RESOLUTION NO. SOLUTION NO. 1828. 1841 ADOPTED. Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Councilman Memmesheimer this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 1841. Councilman Jumner,offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, APPROPRIAT- ING THE SUM OF x4,462.81 FOR THE PURCHASE OF TAX DEEDS FROM LOS ANGELES COUNTY FOR CERTAIN PROPER- TIES LOCATED IN THE CITY OF AZUSA. RESOLUTION NO. Moved by Councilman Owens, seconded by Councilman 1842 ADOPTED. Memmebheimer this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 3842.
