Absent: Councilman Jumper. A petition with 15 names attached thereto request- ing the removal of two bottle trees in the parkway in front of residence at 607 Orange Avenue was read. Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Councilman Owens and duly carried same be referred to -the City Planning Commission Faulkner, Oakes and Faulkner requested permission to bid on the City Audit. ' MovRd and carried same be placed on file. Mr. Edson Rorabeck complimented the City Council on the•manner in which the City is operated and stated that after having paid his City Tax, he felt that he had never before received so much for so little. Moved and carried that this communication be acknowledged and placed on file. It was unanimously agreed the City Clerk be instruct- ed to bill Henry Montoya $7.50 per month beginning No 1, 1944 for rental of property described as a portion of Lot 69, Sub. #2 Azusa Land and Water Company and now.appearing in the name of the City of Azusa. A report on the condition of the present Fire Hall, presented by Herbert J. Powell, Architect, was read. Moved and carried that same be placed on file. A notification of Alcholic Beverage License applies-. tion from the State Board of Equalization for Rose Torres was read. Moved by Councilman Owens, seconded by Councilman Morden this matter be referred to the Mayor and Chief ' of Police with Power to Act. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilman: Owens, Memmesheimer, Morden, Lamm. Noes: None. Absent' Councilman Jumper. The Clerk announced there were no bids received in answer to Notice Calling for Bids on a two-way radio. Superintendent of Light Department, V. D. Smith reported he had received a bid of 0105.00 to repair the Neon sign located on the corner of Garvey Boulevard and Azusa Avenue. Moved by Councilman Morden, seconded by Councilman Memmesheimer this matter be referred -to the Super- intendent of Light Department with power to act. Carried by the following vote -of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Memmesheimer, Morden, Lamm. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Jumper. Mr. Smith reported on Bids received on an electric starter. Moved by Councilman Morden, seconded by Councilman Memmesheimer Council reject all Bids and buy in the open market. The City Clerk to be instructed to ' return bid checks to unsuccessful Bidders. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Owens, Memmesheimer Morden, Lamm, City Attoraey,Miller and City Clerk. Absent: Councilman Jumper. Each member present acknowledged receipt of a written copy of the minutes of November 6, 1944. The Mayor asked if there were any objections or corrections to said minutes. There being none, the minutes of November 6, 1944 were approved as written. ' Mr. John Bender'addressed Council relative to the procedure in offering tax deeded lands for sale. Councilman Memmesheimer offered the following Resolution: RESOLVED, that a copy of that certain Notice entitled "Notice No. One of Intention to Sell City of Azusa Owned Real Property and Inviting Bids or Offers Therefor", dated the'6th day of November, 1944, be placed on file in the Office of the City Clerk of said City for the purpose of'identification and reference; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council hereby approves said form of notice and does hereby invite bids or offers for -the real properties therein described, as therein contemplated; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City - Council hereby elects to sell said properties as described in said notice by private sale and on the terms and conditions as set forth in said notice; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City ' Clerk be and she -is hereby authorized and instructed to cause said notice to be published in the official newspaper of said City, to -wit; Azusa Herald and Pomotropic, in the time, form and manner required by law; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED. -that the said "Notice No. One of Intention to Sell City of Azusa Owned Real Property -and Inviting Bids orOffersThere- for.",which is on file as aforementioned and open to the public inspection, is hereby referred to and by this reference expressly incorporated herein and made a part ]hereof. Mooed by Councilman Owens, seconded by Councilman Memmesheimer this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution Number 1848. carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Memmesheimer, Lamm. Noes: Councilman Morden. Absent: Councilman Jumper. Mr. Rolla E. Clapp addressed Council requesting a zoning variance from an R-1 to R-2 zone on property located in Paramount Heights Tract. The City Attorney advised Mr. Clapp to conform to the procedure outlined in Ordinance Number 342. City Attorney Miller reported on the State Employees Retirement System. F. M. Robinson addressed Council relative to this plan of retirement stating that in his opinion the Congress would soon enact a plan whereby City Employees may receive Social Security. Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Councilman Morden the City Clerk be instructed to request Mr. Earl W. Chapman, Executive Secretary, for State Employees Retirement System to quote the price of a Survey for the City of Azusa.
