Present at roll call: Councilmen: Owens, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Morden, Lamm, City Attorney, Miller and Deputy City Clerk. Absent: None. Each member present acknowledged receipt of a written copy of the minutes of regular meeting of April 2, 1945. The Mayor asked if there were any objections or corrections to said minutes. There being none the minutes of April 2, 1945 were approved as written. ' The Deputy City Clerk announced she had received three Bids in answer to Notice Calling for Bids furnishing approximately 3200 tons of Plant -mix Surfacing. Moved by Councilman Owens, seconded by Council- man Memmeshelmer the Bids be now opened, examined and publicly declared. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Morden, Lamm. Noes: None. Absent: None. GRIFFITH COMPANY 7:30P.M. 201 We propose to furnish all labor, material and equipment necessary for the furnishing and delivery, and truck spreading of 3200 Tons of Plant -mixed Surfacing, in accordance with Section 26 of the Standard Specifications, dated July 1940, Department of Public Works, Division of Highways, of the State of California, for the price of Two and 35/100 dollars (62.35) per ton. PACIFIC ROCK & GRAVEL CO. Plant Mix Bid to be opened at 7:30 o'clock P.M. Monday, April 16, 1945. We propose to furnish you 3,200 Tons, More or less, of Plant Mixed Surfac- Ing in accordance with Section 28 of Standard Specifications, dated July, 1940, Department of Public Works, Division of Highways, of the State of California, which shall include the furnishing of all materials therefor, labor and equipment for the mixing of the same and hauling and spreading on the streets proposed to be resurfaced within your City, all by dump truck,T We are enclosing certified check in the amount of $350.00, which is five percent of a total bid of $2.14 per ton for 3,200 Tons. which amounts to $60848.00, The above price of J2.14 per ton is subject to a cash discount of 20¢ per ton if the account is paid in full by the 15th of the following month for all deliveries made during the preceding month. The Deputy City Clerk announced she had receiv- ed seven Bids in answer to Notice Calling for Bids for construction of the Alterations and Improvements to the Azusa City Hall. Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Councilman Jumper the Bids be now opened and examined and publicly declared. The report of the City Planning Commission received April 16, 1945 recommending a variance in favor of Azusa Rock & Send Company for accomodation of its offices, scales and a parking lot on a part of W. 2 of W.Z of Lot 48, Sub. #2 Azusa Land & Water Company being that part extending W. on S. Side of Paramount Street 3001 from intersection of Mira Loma Drive, thence S. 600, then E. 3001 to Mira Loma Drive, Thence N. to place of beginning, was read. Councilman Morden offered a Resolution entitled: 203. I CITY HALL, AZUSA, CALIFORNIA, MONDAY, APRIL 16;-1945- "A RESOLUTION OF CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA AUTHORIZING A VARIANCE UNDER ORDINANCE 342 IN FAVOR OF AZUSA ROCK & SAND CO." Moved by Councilman Owens, seconded by Councilman Morden this Resolution be adopted as read and number- ed Resolution No. 1884. Carried by Following vote of Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Morden, Lamm. Noes: None. Absent: None. An envelope bearing the letterhead of Assets Reconstruction Corporation Ltd., postmarked "Los Angeles ' California, April 7, 1945, 7:30 P.M." addressed to the City Council was opened at the Council table during the meeting at the direction of Council, being the first meeting of Council following receipt of said communication and was found to contain a paper headed "Notice of Pendency of Action" in Case #493,129 pend- ing in the Superior Court of Los Angeles County. On order of the City Council same was turned over to City Attorney Miller for handling. Matter of application of Aerojet Engineering Corpora- tion for tax reduction on certain property alledged by it to be owned by Defense Plant Corporation to assess- ed value of $11,090.00 was referred to the Mayor with Instructions to direct the auditor and Deputy City Assessor H. 0. Williams to contact the Aerojet Engineer- ing Corporation and check its books and figures and make recommendation of appropriate action to City Council. On motion of Councilman Morden, seconded by Council- man Memmesheimer it was resolved that in addition to charges which already have been and are being made against the M.V.A. fund, the following additional charges be made against that fund from this time ' hence forth and until further order of Council which said additional charges shall be effective as and from July 1, 1944: Salary of Motorcycle Officer as and from July 1, 1944. All Motorcycle expenditures as and -Pr m i3uly, 1, 1944. And be it resolved further that all proper transfers of funds be made in order to carry out terms of this resolution. It was moved by Councilman Owens, seconded by Council- man Memmesheimer that all receipts from State Pool Equipment be credited to Police and Fire Fund. ' A motion was made by Councilman Morden, seconded by Councilman Owens granting Aerojet Engineering Corpora- tion permission to temporarily close end of Third Street on following conditions: The fencing -off would be only a temporary proposition for the durAtion of war and six months thereafter. Aerojet Engineering Corporation would agree that at the end of this time it would remove the fence obstructing free access; and during the time the road was fenced off the corporation would insure the City against any liability by a Hold Harmless Agreement satisfactory to the City. They would furnish a certificate of insurance from our insurance carriers naming the City as beneficiary in accordance with any such agreement. Councilman Morden offered an Ordinance entitled: "AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 356" to•be placed on its first reading. This Ordinance was then read for the first time. Councilman Memmesheimer offered a resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, ' LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, FIXING THE SALARY OF CERTAIN CITY EMPLOYEES AND DEFINING THEIR DUTIES. Moved by Councilman Morden, seconded by Councilman Owens, this Resolution be adopted as read and number- ed•Resolution No. 1885. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Owens, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Morden, Lamm. Noes: None. Absent: None.
