Present at roll -call: Councilmen: Nasser, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Malone, Lamm, City Attorney Tscharner ROLL CALL and City Clerk. Absent: None. Each member present acknowledged receipt of a written copy of the minutes of August 5, 1946. The Mayor asked if there were any objections or corrections to said minutes. There being none, the minutes of August 5, 1946, were approved as written. ' Marlowe Madison addressed Council relative to the purchase of a range for the Fire Department recre- ation hall. It was unanimously agreed this matter be referred to Councilman Nasser and Fireman Madison, with power to act. James Toledo requested Council to have the last two -electric lights at the far side of the baseball diamond adjusted so that the men may play baseball at night. This matter was referred to Superintendent V. D. Smith, with power to act Fernando Tuscano requested the use of the City Park for the Mexican Independence Celebration on Septem- ber 15th and 16th, 1946. No action taken. John F. Bender, Special Attorney for the City, addressed Council relative to matters pertaining to tax deeded property. Councilman Malone offered a Resolution entitled: ' A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, OBJECTING TO THE SALE, BY THE COUNTY TAX COLLECTOR OF. LOS ANGELES COUNTY, OF TAX DEEDED PROPERTY PURSUANT TO TETE PROVISIONS OF CHAPTER 70 PART 61 DIVISION 1 OF THE REVENUE AND TAXATION CODE. Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Councilman Jumper, this resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 2012. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Malone, Lamm. Noes: None. Absent: None. Councilman Jumper offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING AND INSTRUCTING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK OF SAID CITY TO EXECUTE AGREEMENT OF SAID CITY AND THE BOARD OF SUPER VISORS, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, FOR PURCHASE OF THE STATE'S INTEREST IN TAX DEEDED PROPERTY. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Councilman Memmesheimer, this resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 2013. Councilman Jumper offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING AND INSTRUCTING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK OF SAID CITY TO EXECUTE AGREEMENT OF SAID CITY AND THE BOARD OF SUPER- VISORS, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, FOR PURCHASE OF THE STATE'S INTEREST IN TAX DEED PROPERTY. Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Council- man Nasser, this resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 2014. Mr. Bender presented to Council a letter addressed to him and signed by Frank C. Daley; in which Mr. Daley stated his reasons for offering $350.00 for certain tax deeded property. Councilman Memmesheimer offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF AZUSA, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING BID, QUITCLAIM DEED ONLY, TO CITY OWNED REAL PROPERTY. Moved by Councilman Nasser, seconded by Councilman Malone, this resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 2015. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Malone, Lamm. Noes: None. Absent: None. Mr. Harry E. Bender, of the Azusa Rock and Sand Company, addressed Council relative to the request of said company for a zone variance. The Azusa Planning Commission recommended that Lot 28, except 5 acres thereof, of Subdivision No. 2, Azusa Land & Water Company, be re -zoned from an R-1 zone to an M-2 zone, subject to the terms of Ordinance No. 342. Councilman Nasser offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, GRANTING A ZONE VARIANCE ON A PORTION OF LOT 28 OF SUB- DIVISION NO. 2, AZUSA LAND AND WATER COMPANY, OWNED BY THE AZUSA ROCK AND SAND COMPANY. Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Councilman Malone, this resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 2016. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Malone, Lamm. Noes: None. Absent: None. A communication from Sheldon Detectives request- ing a license to operate in the City was offered. Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Councilman Jumper, the Chief of Police be instructed to issue a license to Sheldon Detectives. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Malone, Lamm. Noes: None. Absent: None. Letters from the Senate Interim Committee on State and Local Taxation signed by Ben Hulse, Chairman, were read. Councilman Jumper offered to attend the meeting held on September 3rd and 4th at the State Building in Los Angeles. The Application of the Pacific Electric Railway Company, No. 26636, relative to bus service serving the cities of Arcadia, Monrovia, Azusa, Glendora, San Dimas, and La Verne, was read. It was unanimously agreed the City Clerk advise the Pacific Electric Railway Company, the Council are in favor of such service. RESOLUTION NO. 2015 ADOPTED REQUEST FOR SONE VARIANCE GRANTED RESOLUTION 140. 2016 ADOPTED SHELDON DETECTIVES GR°,NTED LICENSE COUNCILMAN JUMPER , TO ATTEND MEETING OF SENATE INTERIM COMMITTEE APPLICATION OF PACIFIC ELECTRIC RAILWAY COMPANY GRANTED CITY HALL, AZUSA, CALIFORNIA, MONDAY, AUGUST 19, 1946. 7:30 P.M. 417 A request. to use the City Park, made by members of the Auto Electric Service Company, was read. It was unanimously agreed the City Clerk advise the writer, Jean Wheeler, that the facilities are limited; however they are welcome to make use of the park at any time. A request from Compton and Barton for a part of the City Business, was offered. Moved and carried this company be placed on the list of merchants. ' Councilman Malone offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, APPROVING FIRST SUPPLEMENTAL MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT FOR EXPENDITURE OF 1/4 CENT GAS TAX ALLOCATED FOR STATE HIGHWAYS. Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Councilman Jumper, this resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 2017. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Malone, Lamm. Noes: None. Absent: None. A"letter from George A. Steele, relative to the' alley to be abandoned in Tract No. 14268, was read. Moved and carried this matter be referred to the City Attorney to report back. Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Councilman Malone, the City Clerk be instructed to advertise for bids on the annual printing ' for the City. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Malone, Lamm. Noes: None. Absent: None. Mr. John P. Boswell offered a tentative map of Subdivision No. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Council- man Jumper, this map be referred to the City Engineer to check and report back. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Malone, Lamm. Noes: None. Absent: None. Mr. McKay requested use of the public address system for the local congregation of the Episcopal Church of Glendora. Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Councilman Jumper, Council grant Mr. McKay the use of same providing a city employee, who is familiar with the operation of this equipment, accompany it and be paid the same rate of pay as the City of Azusa would pay for this service. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Malone, Lamm. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Councilman Jumper, the City Clerk be authorized and instructed to advertise for bids for the sale of the old Fire Hall, bids to be opened on the 23rd day of September, 1946.
