The City Council of the City of Azusa met in
regular session at'the above time and place.
Present at roll call: Councilmen: Nasser,
Jumper, Memmesheimer, Malone, Lamm, City
Attorney Miller and City Clerk. Absent: None. ROLL CALL
Each member present -;acknowledged receipt of
a written copy of the minutes of January 209
1947. The Mayor asked if there were any ob-
jections or corrections to said minutes.
There being none, the minutes of January 20,.• MINUTES APPROVED
'1947 were approved as written.
The Clerk announced that four bids had been
received in answer to Notice calling for bids
on the Cityts annual supply of gasoline.
Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Council-
man Nasser, the bids be now opened, examined and BIDS ON GASOLINE
publicly declared.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Jumper, Memmesheimer,
Malone, Lamm.
Noes: None. Absent: None.

Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Council-
man Malone, the bids be referred to Councilman
Nasser, Chairman of Purchasing Committee to re-
port back at the next regular meeting of Council.

Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Jumper, Memmesheimer,
Malone, Lamm.
Noes: None. Absent: None.
The Clerk announced that one bid had been received
in answer to Notice Calling for bids on a Motor
Grader.
Moved by Councilman Nasser, seconded by Council- '
man Malone and duly carried, the bid be now opened,
examined and publicly declared:

Mr. Amos McCoy addressed Council requesting
permission to operate a "pony ride" on property
located on the north west corner of Foothill
B6U-evard and Angeleno Avenue.
Moved by Councilman Nasser, seconded by Council-
man Jumper, Council authorize the issuance of a
business license to Mr. McCoy subject to the
approval of Councilman Memmesheimer.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Jumper, Memmesheimer,
Malone, Lamm.
Noes: None. Absent: None.
Mr. J. H. Gadwood of #228 South Virginia Avenue
addressed Council relative to a gas connection,
at this address. No action taken.
Chief of Police M. T. Hakkins offered a report to
Council on Lawrence Flores.
Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Council-
man Malone, the City Attorneys be instructed to
draft and have served a Notice on Mr. Flores
that at the regular Council Meeting to be held
February 179 1947 at 7:30 P.M. a Hearing would
be had before Council to determine whether or
not the Flores business license should be revoked
on charges submitted by the Chief of Police.

Malone, Lamm.

A letter of appreciation from Mrs. August L.
Meier was read and ordered placed on file.
Mr. Williams of the Williams Sign Company addressed
Council relative to a neon sign.
Mr. William Hilquist requested trees be planted
in the parkway on Sunset Avenue between Tenth
and•kleventh Streets.
The Planning Commission suggested that trees be
re -planted where necessary along both sides of
West Foothill Boulevard and property owners in-
structed to give the trees proper care.
Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Council-
man Memmesheimer, this matter be referred to
Councilman Malone with power to act.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Jumper, Memmesheimer,
Malone, Lamm.
Noes: None. Absent: None.
Mayor Lamm appointed Councilman Memmesheimer
Director of Safety Program in the City of Azusa.
Moved and carried, Council approve action of the
Mayor.

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA,
IMPOSING A LICENSE TAX FOR THE PRIVILEGE OF
SELLING TANGIBLE PERSONAL PROPERTY AT RETAIL,
PROVIDING FOR PERMITS TO RETAILERS AND FOR THE
COMPUTATION, COLLECTION AND PAYMENT OF SUCH
TAX; AND PRESCRIBING PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS
HEREOF.
be placed upon its first reading. This ordi=
nance was then read for the first time.
'Superintendent of Light and Water Departments,
V. D. Smith, presented to Council a written
request signed by C. H. Clark, Hugh Gerharz,
Hugh H. Frisby, Leroy J. Ogg and George W.
Adams for a 15% increase in salary retroactive
to January 1, 1947, and they suggested that
the'following proposals be considered: -

ORDINANCE ON SALES
TAX READ FOR FIRST

LINEMEN OFFER REQUEST
FOR INCREASE IN SALARY
1'. That the present annual allowance of twelve days's sick leave
if not needed or used be allowed to accumulate to the credit
of the employee up to a certain maximum, in order to protect
him in the event of a major accident or illness.
2. That the present provision of eighty working hours' vacation
after one year of service be liberalized by allowing an addi-
tional eight working hours for,each year of service thereafter.
3'. That men who are required to -"stand by" be paid at one-half
_regular rates of pay for such stand-by service; and when such
men are called out for work outside of normal working hours,
such work be paid for'at twice regular rates.
:4-. That safety instructions be given to all employees engaged in
hazardous work.at least,once per month in meetings -of at least"
four hours' duration, pole top and prone pressure methods of
'resuscitation to be -given -emphasis at these meetings..
No actioh taken in this matter.

man-Memmesheimer, the following requisitions be
allowed: 2396 -2397 -2398 -LW 640-641-642-643-644-
645-646-647-648-649-650-651-652-653-654.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:

Malone, Lamm.
Noes: None. Absent: None.
