The City Cuuncil of the City of Azusa met in regular session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Nasser, Jumper, Memme$redmer, Malone, City Attorney Tscharner and/City Clerks Absent: Mayor Lamm. The minutes of the regular meeting of April 7, 1947 were approved as written. A communication from S. V. Cortelyou's office ' relative to the erection and maintenance of State Highway signs, was read and ordered placed on file. Mr. Littleton addressed Council protesting the erection of a log cabin on West Sixth Street. The City Attorney advised Mr. Littleton that he would investigate the law to ascertain what, if anything, could be done about it. Mr. Wm. H. Meyer of 966 West Third Street requeste a zone variance on Lots 211 and 212 in Tract No. 10660 from an R-1 to C-2 zone, to establish a restaurant. The City Planning Commission recommended that this request be granted with the understanding that liquor cannot be served with meals or sold on the premises. Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Councilman Jumper, Council accept the recoffinenda- tion of the Planning Commission with all provisions ' stated therein, and that the variance be granted subject to said conditions. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Mal one. Noes: None. Absent: Mayor Lamm. ROLL CALL COMMUNICATION ORDER- ED PLACED ON FILE PROTEST ON ERECTION OF LOG CABIN VARIANCE GRANTED Mr. Howard L. Tipton requested a zone variance on Lots 37 and.38.in Block 21 for the construction of a building to house the manufacture of ceramics, from an R-1 to M-1 zone. VRRIANCE GRANTED The City Planning Commission recommended that the request be granted provided the variance.may be used for no.bther purpose than that of the manu- facture of ceramics and that the walls of the structure be constructed of fire resistant material. Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Councilman Memmesheimer that Council accept the recommendation of the Planning Commission with provisions as stated therein except that material in walls shall not be less resistant than aluminum steel or corrugated iron. Carried by the following vote of the Council: I Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Malone. Noes: None. Absent: Mayor Lamm. The City Attorney presented copies of letters written to the Union Oil Company, General Petro- leum Corporation, The Texas Company, Messrs. Bissell & Atwill, and Foothill Commercial Refrigeration, relative to the interpretation of Sales Tax Ordinance No. 392. CITY ATTORNEY FILED COPIES OF LETTERS WRITTEN TO OIL COMPANIES ON SALES The Southern Counties Gas Company replied to Mrs. TAX Richards letter in which she asked who had given permission to install meters and air vent in the parkway on the southeast corner of 11th Street and Vernon Ave., stating that permission had been granted under the provisions of .the Franchise Ordinance. 7SDE7 i _ _ cq 1 CITY HALL, AZUSA, CALIFORNIA. Councilman Memmesheimer offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, ACCEPTING AN EASEMENT FROM GENERAL ORANGE PRODUCTS COMPANY, AND ORDERING SAME TO BE RECORDED. Moved by Councilman Nasser, seconded by Council- man Jumper this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 2068. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Malone. Noes: None. Absent: Mayor Lamm. Councilman Jumper offered a Resolution entitled: 13 MRS RICHARD'S PROTEST ON INSTAL- LATION OF GAS METERS AND AIR VENT RESOLUTION NO. 2068 ADOPTED A. RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF AZUSA DETERMINING THAT THE PUBLIC INTEREST AND CONVENIENCE REQUIRE THAT CERTAIN STREETS WITHIN SAID CITY BE RESUR- RESOLUTION NO. 2069 FACED FROM GAS TAX FUNDS ALLOCATED BY LOS ANGELES ADOPTED COUNTY TO SAID CITY FOR THE 1946-47 FISCAL YEAR. Moved by Councilman Nasser, seconded by Council- man Memmesheimer this Resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 2069. Carried by -the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Malone. Noes: None. Absent: Mayor Lamm. Councilman Memmesheimer offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA APPROVING AND ACCEPTING THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY MUTUAL AID PLAN. Moved by'Councilman Jumper, seconded by Council- RESOLUTION NO. 2070 man Nasser this Resolution be adopted as read ADOPTED and numbered Resolution No. 2070. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Malone. Noes: None. Absent: Mayor Lamm. Councilman Memmesheimer offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA EMPLOYING MAURICE J. LYNCH AS GROUNDMAN AND ALSO JAMES PEEPLES AS JOURNEYMAN LINEMAN BOTH IN THE LIGHT AND WATER DPEARTMENTS OF THE CITY OF AZUSA AND FIXING THEIR SALARY. ' Moved by Councilman Nasser, seconded by Councilman Jumper this Resolution be adopted as read and RESOLUTION NO. 2071 numbered Resolution No. 2071. ADOPTED Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Malone. Noes: None. Absent. Mayor Lamm. A Quit Claim Deed offered by Iva Calvert and QUIT CLAIM DEED others was presented. MONDAY, APRIL 210 1947. 7:30 P.M. Mr. C. H. Putnam requested Council to plant shrubs along the north and south sides of Foothill Blvd. on the west approach to the MR. PUTNAM REQUESTED City. PLANTING OF SHRUBS Moved and carried that the letter be filed and City Clerk be instructed to thank Mr. Putman for his suggestion. Mrs. Yount requested permission to use the Youth MRS YOUNT'S REQUEST Recreational Building for meetings of the Royal REFERRED TO CITY CLERK ' Neighbors. Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Councilman Nasser the City Clerk be instructed to advise Mrs. Yount that the building has not as yet been completed; that the building was eredted to house the various Youth Groups and that Council will be happy to work out a program whereby other organizations may use the building on the dates that it is not in use by the Youth Groups. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Malone. Noes: None. Absent: Mayor Lamar. The matter of working out a program for the various groups that use the ball park was discussed. Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Council- man Memmesheimer and duly carried that Councilman Nasser be appointed a Committee of One to be custodian of keys to switch boxes controlling the lights for the Ball Park. Chief of Police Milo T. Hawkins.advised Council in writing that he had suspended Police Officer Walter E. Meyer and recommended that he be removed from the Department. COUNCILMAN NASSER APPOINTED CUSTODIAN OF KEYS Officer Walter E. Meyer requested a Hearing and asked that the date be set after Mayor Lamm WALTER E. MEYER SUSPEND returns to assume his duties as presiding officer.ED FROM POLICE DEPT. Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, tieconded by Concilman Jumper the City Clerk be instructed to advise Officer Meyer Council granted his request and he will be notified of the date of the Hearing upon the Mayor's arrival, also that Officer Meyer return to the Chief of Police all City property in his possession, pending the Hearing.
