The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Nasser, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Lamm, City Attorney Tscharner and City Clerk. Absent: Councilman Malone. Each member present acknowledged receipt of a written copy of the minutes of the regular meeting of August 4th and the adjournedmeeting ' of August 11, 1947. The Mayor asked if there were any objections or corrections to said minutes. There being none, the minutes of August 4 and August 11, 1947 were approved as written. ROLL CALL MINUTES APPROVED The City Clerk stated that bids for the purchase of city owned property had been received, follow- ing which it was moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, BIDS OPENED seconded by Councilman Jumper and carried that the bids be opened, examined and publicly declared. Thereupon the bids were opened and read by John F. Bender, Special City Attorney, and publicly declared. Bender asked for oral bids from any person desiring to bid upon each of said parcels of property and each and all of said bids, either written or oral, were duly considered by the ORAL BIDS Council and the following described offers for city owned real property were duly and regularly accepted, each of the accepted bids being the highest bid received by the City pursuant to Resolution numbers as hereafter shown. Each and all of the hereinbefore mentioned bids, except such bids as were accepted by the City Council as hereinbefore set forth, were rejected by Council, and by common consent of the Council, the City Clerk was authorized and instructed to return to each of the said above named unsuccess- ful bidders, the deposit made with each of said bids. A petition for zone exception as provided by Section 16 of Ordinance 342 from an R-1 zone to REQUEST FOR ' a C-2 zone, was presented by George R. Sanders and Walter E. Lewis for the property described as ZOITE VARIANCE a portion of Lot 83 of Sub. #2 Azusa Land and Water Company. The Planning Commission recommended that the petition be granted with the reservation that they "do not recommend the serving or selling of liquor -on the premises", due to the property being located in a residential area. Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Council- PETITION REFERRED man Memmesheimer and duly carried the petition of BACK TO PLAN - Sanders and Lewis be referred back to the Planning NING COMMISSION Commission for clarificatioi of their intent. A communication from the Planning Commission relative to a request made by J. R. McCreight to erect an office building on Lot 207 in Tract 10660, located on West Third -Street, was read. Moved and carried the Clerk advise Mr. McCreight PETITION REFERRED that he prepare a petition for zone variance and BACK TO PLAN - present same to the Planning Commission for their KING COr-RIISSION recommendation. ' A communication from the Planning Commission relative to the request of Mr. J. R. Bridge for a five foot set -back on Pasadena Avenue to provide for the erection of cottages to be used as an auto court, was read. Moved and carried the Clerk be instructed to advise PETITION REFERRED Mr. Bridge to prepare and present to the Planning BACK TO PLANNING Commission a petition requesting a zone variance. COMMISSION Councilman Nasser asked to be excused. A request to break 40 or 50 feet of curbing on Crescent Drive directly south of the end of Orange Avenue to facilitate a road into the industrial REQUEST TO BREAK property between Crescent Drive and Foothill CURB ON'CRESCENT Boulevard, was offered by R. N. Simpson. DRIVE GRANTED Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Council- man Memmesheimer the application of R. N. Simpson to break 40 or 50 feet of curb directly south of Orange Avenue be granted upon condition that the work be done under the supervision of the Street Superintendent and at the expense of R. N. Simpson. ' Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Jumper, Memmesheimer, Lamm. Noes: None. Absent: Councilmen: Nasser, Malone. Two complaints were presented to Council, one on the condition of garbage at 530 Orange Avenue and the other the lack of rural mail service. The Mayor and Mr. Shelton discussed the matter and offered suggestions to remedy the complaints. A request to cut the curb on the east side of Azusa Avenue opposite Paramount Avenue, for a driveway, REOUFST TO CUT was offered. CURB ON AZUSA AVE. The request of the Ministerial Union to use the A uditorium on October 12 through the 26th, was read. Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Councilman Jumper the following bills be allowed and warrants ordered drawn upon the BILLS ' Treasury for the same_. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes:�Councilmen: Jumper, Memmesheimer, Lamm. Noes: Nonb.- Absent: Councilmen: Nasser, Malone. Moved and carried the Clerk be instructed to GENERAL FUND advise the Lutheran Church that Council had 94 granted them temporary use of the Auditorium Payroll 937.50 and that a request for said use must be made 95 United States Post Office each week in order to eliminate conflicting REQUEST TO USE dates and to work out a program whereby all the AUDITORIUM BY Permits churches could use the auditorium if possible. rdINISTERIAL UNION ' The matter of the condition of the Little Dalton Material 42.99 Wash was again brought to the attention of 98 Azusa Rock & Sand Co.
