CITY HALL, AZUSA, CALIFORNIA. MONDAY, OCTOBER 6, 1947. 7;30 P.M.
The City Council of the City of Azusa met in
regular session at the above time and place.
Present at roll call: Councilmen: Nasser,
Jumper, Memmesheimer, Malone, Lamm, City Attorney ROLL CALL
Tscharner and City Clerk. Absent: None.
Each member present acknowledged receipt of a
written copy of the minutes of the meetings of
September 2nd and 15, 1947. The Mayor asked if
there were any objections or corrections to said
' minutes. There being none, the minutes of MINUTES APPROVED
September 2nd and 15, 1947 were approved as
written.
Mr. Max Cunningham addressed Council relative to
his application to the State Board of Equaliza-
tion for an on sale beer license.
Mr. Wallace Gordon and Miss Smith of the Brown
School for Girls protested the issuance of the
license. APPLICATION FOR
BEER LICENSE
The Mayor explained that Mr. Cunninghamts place
of business is located outside the boundary line
of the City and within the jurisdiction of the
County but that he had received phone calls pro-
testing the sale of beer at this location.
Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Council-
man Malone the City Clerk be instructed to write
the StateBoard of Equalization advising them that
the City Council had received protests from local
groups on the issuance of an on sale beer license
to Mr. Cunningham.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Jumper, Memmesheimer,
Malone, Lamm. Noes: None. Absent: None.
Mr. Glaster of West Duell Street addressed Council
relative to a trailer parked on the rear of the
lot owned by T. J. Ray.
Mr. Ray also addressed Council stating that he felt ENFORCEMENT OF
the trailer necessary to the success of his business TRAILER ORDINANCE
venture and that he could not afford to purchase a REFERRED TO
home at this time. POLICE CHIEF
It was unanimously agreed to let the matter rest
until the Chief of Police returned and submitted
a report to Council.
Rolla E. Clapp addressed Council relative to his
application for a zone variance and stated he hoped R. E. CLAPP
to work out something on the sale of lots in ADDRESSED COUNCI]
Tract 8507.
A letter from the pastor of the Lutheran Church
advising Council they had secured the use of the COMMUNICATION
Woman's Clubhouse and would no longer require the ORDERED PLACED
use of the City Auditorium, was read and ordered ON FILE
placed on file.
Notification of League dinner was read and
placed on file.
A request for the installation of a street light
at 975 W. Foothill Blvd. was presented by Mr. Dore MR. DORE'S
of Dore'sCoffee Shop. REQUEST TABLED
Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Council- DATEL A LATER
man Jumper and duly carried that Council take this
matter under consideration.
A copy of a letter addressed to Mr. C. Quintini and
Mr. Phillip Greig, signed by H. P. Ringer, Building
Inspector, relative to inspection of buildings now
being erected on Azusa Lane, was read.

Moved and carried this matter be referred to the
City Attorney with instructions to take up with
Supervisor Smith the condition of the Little CITY ATTORNEY TO TAK.
Dalton Wash and the Flood Control Channel at UP WITH WE. SMITH
this point.
The City Clerk presented a report on delinquent
accounts of R. N. Simpson, Jumbo Steel Corp.,
and Nobell Resins Company.
Moved and carried some be referred to the City
Attorney for collection.
Councilman Malone offered a Resolution entitled:
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
AZUSA REQUESTING STATE AID FROM THE POSTWAR PUBLIC
WORKS REVIEW BOARDFOR ACQUISITION OF A SITE FOR
THE "AZUSA MEMORIAL PARK", DESIGNATING AUTHORIZED
AGENT TO ACT IN BEHALF OF THE CITY IN THE MATTER
AND TO SUPPLY ALL INFORMATION REQUIRED IN CONNEC-
TION THEREWITH IN ACCORDANCE WITH -THE RULES AND
REGULATIONS OF SAID REVIEW BOARD.
Moved by Councilman Nasser, seconded by Council-
man Memmesheimer this resolution be adopted as
read and numbered Resolution No. 2137.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Jumper, Memmesheimer,
Malone, Lamm.

RESOLUTION NO.2137
ADOPTED
The Planning Commission presented to Council a
recommendation that James F. Ayon be granted a REQUEST FOR ZONE
zone variance from an R-1 to a C-3 to establish VARIANCE REFFRRED TO
a restaurant on Lot 28 and 29, Chester R. Pylets CITY A TTOFNEY
Mountain View Tract.
It was unanimously agreed this matter be referred
to the City Attorney to draw a resolution granting
this variance.
A recommendation offered by the Planning Commission
that the owner.of the property located at 522 San
Gabriel Avenue be permitted to occupy the garage
provided a suitable garage is constructed to house
the cars.
Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Council-
man Memmesheimer, Mr. Ringer the Building Inspector
be instructed to issue a building permit for the
alteration of the garage at 522 San Gabriel Ave.
when he is satisfied that sufficient garage room
is furnished to house the cars owned and used by
the occupants of both houses.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Jumper, Memmesheimer,
Malone, Lamm. Noes: None. Absent: None.
Mayor Lamm appointed Mr. D. T. Dawe to serve as a
member of the Library Board to fill the vacancy
caused by the death of Mr. Putnam.
Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by
Councilman Nasser and duly carried the action of
the Mayor be approved.
Paul E. Kressly, City Engineer, submitted a report
in the matter of the disposal of sewage and wastes
from the proposed plant of the General Brewing Corp.
Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by
Councilman Jumper the City Engineer be instructed
to contact Mr. Henius of the General Brewing Cor-
poration tomorrow morning in line with the written
report of the Engineer, that Council feels the
responsibility of providing suitable disposal

facilities rests with the General Brewing Corp.,
since the sewage is of special nature; however,
the City will be willing to furnish the site and
assist in such way as Council feels reasonable.

Mr. Earl P. Woolery offered his resignation as
Patrolman in the Police Dept.
Moved,by Councilman Malone, seconded by Coundlman
Jumper and duly carried Council accept this
resignation and order same placed on file.
Councilman Jumper offered a resolution entitled:
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
AZUSA EMPLOYING WILLIAM EDMUND HARRIS AS POLICE
OFFICER OF SAID CITY ON A -PROBATIONARY BASIS AND
FIXING HIS SALARY.
Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Councilman
Nasser this resolution be adopted as read and
numbered Resolution No. 2138.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Jumper, Memm4sheimer,
Malone, Lamm.
Noes: None. Absent: None.
It was unanimously agreed the City Attorney pre-
pare an amendment to the City Sales Tax Ordinance
extending the time to submit reports.
Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Council-
man Nasser the following numbered resolutions
entitled as follows, be offered and adopted.
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
AZUSA APPROVING AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF AZUSA
AND JOHN V. FRY AND HAROLD J. FRY, BUTZ AND WERNER$

COMPANY, AND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO SIGN THE -SAME
