MONDAY, JANUARY 19, 1947. 7:30 F.1%y The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Nasser, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Dickerson, Malone, City ROLL CALL Attorney Tscharner and City Clerk. Absent: None. Each member present acknowledged receipt of a written copy of the minutes of January 5,1948. The Mayor asked if there were any objections or corrections to said minutes. There being ' none, the minutes of January 5, 1948 were approved as written. Mr. George Grandstaff, accompanied by Mr. Colett, addressed Council relative to the establishment of a National Guard Field Artillery Battery, under the command of Col. Guzman, requesting the approval of the formation of the National Guard and the donation of one acre of land for the erection of an armory, to be furnished by the Federal Government. Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Council- man Memmesheimer that the City Council are actively interested in obtaining a Field Artillery Battery to be located in Azusa and will make every reasonable effort to furnish a building site for the erection of an armory, not to exceed one acre of land. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Dickerson, Malone. Noes: None. Absent: None. The Application of Clarence M. Coleman for a ' change of classification and re -zoning of property described as a portion of Lots 9 and 10, Block C of Sub. #1 Azusa Land and Water Company, together with the recommendation of the Planning Commission, was read. The City Attorney advised Mr. Coleman that he must have prepared an ordinance, according to the requirements of Ordinance No. 342, before Council can take action in this matter. A Petition for Zone Variance on Lot 36, Block 77, Map of Azusa, offered by Tony Nord together with the recommendation of the Planning Commission, was read. Moved by Councilman Nasser, seconded by Council- man Memmesheimer Council accept the recommendation of the Planning Commission it being the intent of this motion that the building to be erected be used as a shoe repair shop as per Mr. Nord's request and all recommendations of the Planning Commission complied with. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Jumper, Memmesheimer, ' Dickerson, Malone, Noes: None. Absent: None. The request for use of the Recreation Hall, offered by the Model Airplane Club, was read. Moved and carried this matter be referred to the Chief of Police, with power to act. Mrs. Jones offered her application for appoint- ment as an election officer. Moved and carried same be placed on file for future reference. An application for On Sale Beer, offered by Austin J. Abdelnour at 638- Azusa Ave., was read. MINUTES APPROVED MR. MONDAY, JANUARY 191, 1948. 7:30 P%J. No action taken at this time. The report of Water Supt, V. D. Smith and City Engineer Paul E. Kressly on the bids received on January 5, 1948 for the construction and test pumping of a twenty inch dia. well, was offered. - No further action taken at this time. A contract between Engineer Paul E. Kressly and the City of Azusa was offered. No action taken at this time. ' Councilman Memmesheimer offered a Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, DECLARING THE WEEK FEBRUARY 12 to 22nd NATIONAL SECURITY WEEK. Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Council- man Nasser this resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 2175. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Dickerson, Malone. Noes: None. Absent: None. A tentative map of subdivision No. 13641 was Presented. Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Council- man Memmesheimer that the tentative map of Tract No. 13641 be approved subject to all uses and conditions thereon written in red ink by the City Engineer, Paul E. Kressly and with the understanding that the Master Plat, to be here- after approved and recorded, shall show said ' conditions. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Dickerson, Malone. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved and carried the City Clerk is hereby directed and authorized to file with the Los Angeles County District Engineer, Mr. Cortelyou, a certified copy of Ordinance No. 396. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Dickerson, Malone. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Councilman Jumper the City Clerk be authorized and instructed to request the State Retirement System to make necessary survey to determine the cost to the City in the event the employees elect to participate in this plan. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Dickerson, Malone. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Council- man Nasser the City Clerk be instructed to ' advertise for bids on the City's annual supply of gasoline. Carried by the following vote of the Cmuncil: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Jumper, Memmesheimer, Dickerson, Malone. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Council- man Dickerson the report make by A. L. Sonderegger on water conservation be accepted and placed on file. City Councilman Jumper reported that he had contact Mr. Richardson and Commons who have agreed to work out a re -zoning of the entire REPORT ON BIDS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF WELL CITY ENGINEER'S CONTRACT, RESOLUTION NO. 2175 ADOPTED TENTATIVE MAP OF SUBDIVISION NO. 13641 CITY CLERK INSTRUCT ED TO FILE CERTIFIE COPY OF ORDINANCE NO. 396 ' STATE RETIREMENT CITY CLERK INSTRUCT ED TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS ON GASOLINE - REPORT OF A. Councilman Memmesheimer offered a resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF TRE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORI- ZING THE CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT TO ISSUE BICYCLE LICENSES. Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Council- man Dickerson this resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 2176. Councilman Memmesheimer offered a resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, EMPLOYING FRANK R. TUCKER AS METER READER AND OTHER SERVICES IN THE WATER AND LIGHT DEPART- MENT OF THE CITY OF AZUSA AND FIXING HIS SALARY. Moved by Councilman Nasser, seconded by Council- man Jumper this resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No, 2177. Councilman Memmesheimer offered a resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF TEE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF.CERTAIN REAL PROPERTY BY THE CITY ' FOR THE PURPOSE OF DRILLING A WATER WELL THEREON TO SUPPLY WATER TO THE INHABITANTS OF SAID CITY. Moved by Councilman Jumper, seconded by Council- man Dickerson this resolution be adopted as read -and numbered Resolution No. 2178.
