The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Nasser, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper, City Attorney Tacharner and City Clerk. Absent: Councilman Ortuno. Each member present acknowledged receipt of a written copy of the minutes of April 19th and the ' regular adjourned meeting of April 20, 1948. The Mayor asked if there were any objections or corrections to said minutes. There being none, the minutes of April 19, 1948 and April 20, 1948 were approved as written. L Mr. William I. Hoover presented a petition for a zone variance on Lot 11 and the North 1/2 of Lot 12 in Block 43, Map of Azusa, from an R-1 zone to an R-2 zone. Eight property owners signed the petition . offering no objection to the proposed variance. Mayor Jumper advised Mr. Hoover to present the petition to the Planning Commission for recommendation. Councilman Ortuno entered the meeting and took his seat at the Council table. Mr. W. G. Paul, member of Los Angeles Stock Exchange, addressed Council relative to the petition of Mrs. R. M. Follows for a zone variance on the property described as Lots 21, 22 230 24 in Block 13, Map of Azusa. Action in this matter was deferred until a later date. ROLL CALL MINUTES APPROVED PETITION FOR ZONE VARIANCE PETITION FOR ZONE VARIANCE Mrs. Ben Arrietta of #400 San Gabriel Ave. addressed Council relative to the granting of a variance permitting the erection of a PETITION FOR ZONE business building on Azusa Avenue between VARIANCE First and Third Streets. Mayor Jumper advised Mrs. Arrietta to postpone further action in this matter for two weeks. The request for curbs on both sides of Angeleno Avenue between 5th and 6th Streets, was again REQUEST FOR CURBS AND presented. STREET IMPROVEMENT City Engineer Paul E. Kressly offered a report on the cost and the time involved in the pre- paration of plans for such a project. Copies of said report were given to each Councilman. Mayor Jumper advised the representatives of this group that the City would set the grades for curbs and suggested they contact a local contractor who would be willing to do the work. Mr. Doughty of #531 N. Sunset Ave. appeared before Council requesting permission to open a Hobby Shop at his home address. Mayor Jumper advised Mr. Doughty to petition the Planning Commission for the necessary zone variance. Mr. Munson requested a two months leave of absence from the offices of City Treasurer and Tax Collector. Council instructed Mr. Munson to consult the Bonding Company for advise in appointing a Deputy to serve during his absence. . PETITION FOR ZONE VARIANCE MR. MONDAY, MAY , 1948- 7:30 P.M. 30 The matter of the installation of a fire alarm system, a code system, also telephones for the southwest portion of the City, was discussed, REQUEST FOR FIRE and referred to Chief Hawkins. ALARM SYSTEM A letter from Wm. J. Fox, Chief Engineer for COMMUNICATION READ the Regional Planning Commission, was read and referred to Mayor Jumper. Councilman Memmesheimer offered a resolution entitled: ' A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA,.LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, APPLYING FOR AN ALLOTMENT OF STATE AID FOR THE CON- STRUCTION.OF PUBLIC WORKS PROJECT UNDER STATE RESOLUTION NO. 2213 OF CALIFCR NIA CHAPTER 20, STATUTES OF 1946, ADOPTED AS, AMENDED. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Council- man Nasser this resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 2213. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper. Noes: None. Absent: None. A letter from The Judicial Council of the State of California relative to the re -organization JUDICIAL COUNCIL of the lower courts, was offered. It was unanimously agreed this matter be referred to the City Attorney. Councilman Malone offered a resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZIISA, LOS ANGELES -COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, - ACCEPTING EASEMENT FROM THE AZIISA CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT AND AUTHORIZING THE SAME TO BE RECORDED. Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Councilman Nasser this resolution be adopted RESOLUTION NO. 2214 as read and numbered Resolution No. 2214, ADOPTED Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser., Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper. Noes: None. Absent: None. Councilman Nasser offered an ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZIISA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, "RELATING TO T= DISASTER.° to be placed upon its second reading. The title of this ordinance was then read. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Coun- ORDINANCE NO. 401 oilman Memmesheimer Council waive the further ADOPTED reading of this ordinance. Carried by the following vote of the Council: ' Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper. Noes: None. Absent: None. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Council- man Nasser this ordinance be adopted as read and numbered Ordinance No. 401. A petition for a zone variance on Lots ?-and 8 in Block 69, Map of Azusa, from an R-1 zone to a C-2 zone, was presented by Saturnino Rosales. Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Mayor'Jumper the City appropriate 50% of the cost of advertising in the Souvenir Monrovia Day Edition May 17, 1948 and charge this expenditure to advertising and promotion. Moved by Councilman Nasser, seconded by Councilman Malone the City Clerk be instructed to advertise for bids on the necessary electrical equipment for the installation of a sub station for Electric Casting Company.
