CITY HALL, AZUSA, CALIFORNIA. MONDAY, MAY 17, 1948. 7:30 P.M.
The City Council of the City of Azusa met in
regular session at the above time and place.
Present at roll call: Councilmen: Nasser,
Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper, City ROLL CALL
Attorney Tscharner and City Clerk.
Noes: None.
Each member present acknowledged receipt of a
written copy of the minutes of the regular
meeting of May 3rd and the adjourned meeting
' of May 10, 1948. The Mayor asked if there were MINUTES APPROVED
any objections or corrections to said minutes.
There being none, the minutes of May 3rd and
May 10, 1948 were approved as written.
Mr. Marvin appeared before Council relative to
the application for a zone variance on Lots 21,
22, 23 and 24 in Block 13.
Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by
Councilman Malone that the Sly. 1507 of this
property be retained as a C-3 zone with an M-1 ZONE VARIANCE
use exception and the Nly. 501 be retained as
a C-2 zone, with the understanding that a wall
be erected on the north side of the north lot
and black top used on the north lot.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer,
Malone, Jumper. Noes: None, Absent: None.
Councilman Memmesheimer offered a resolution
entitled:
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA GRANTING
' A ZONE VARIANCE TO MRS. R. M. FOLLOWS.
RESOLUTION N0. 2217
Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded
by Council- ADOPTED
man Nasser this resolution be adopted as read
and numbered Resolution No. 2217.
Carried by the following vote of the -Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer,
Malone, Jumper. Noes: None, Absent: None.
The applications of Guadalupe Rosalez and
Wm. Hoover were offered.
Mayor Jumper advised Council that Mr. Commons APPLICATIONS FOR
requested that Council take no action on ZONE VARIANCE
requests for zone variances for the time being.
Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by
Councilman Malone and duly carried that Coun-
cil follow the recommendation of Mr. Commons.
Mrs. Arrietta appeared before Council relative
to the plans for the business building to be
erected on Azusa Avenue.
Mayor Jumper advised Mrs. Arrietta that Council
' would have definite word concerning the new
master plan by June 7th.
A petition with sixteen names attached thereto
requesting that Vernon Avenue between First and
Third Streets be widened and c urbs constructed PETITION FOR
on the west side and curbs and sidewalks on the STREET IMPROVEMENT
east side, was presented.
Mr. E. Be Wooley of #238 N. Vernon Ave.
addressed Council relative to this improvement.
The matter was discussed and Mr. Wooley agreed
to have further information to present to
Council at the next regular meeting.
Mr. Malim addressed Council relative to the
street name signs.

Moved and carried this matter be referred to
Councilman Nasser to report back.
A Notification of Alcoholic Beverage License
Application from the State Board of Equalization
for off sale beer applied for by Peter J. Unruh,
was read and no action taken.
Two letters relative to sales tax, one from the
Southern California Gas Company and one from
E. H. McGaha, were read std referred to the
City Attorney and City Auditor.
A map of subdivision No. 13641 was presented by
Ralph L. Brooks, Civil Engineer, for approval.
Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Council-
man Nasser the map of subdivision No. 13641 be
approved.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer,
Malone, Jumper. Noes: None. Absent: None.
Mr. Samuel Bierbower presented a tentative map
of subdivision No. 14221 for approval.
The Azusa Planning Commission recommended the
approval of this subdivision.
Moved by Councilman Memmesheimjr, seconded by
Councilman Nasser that Council approve the
tentative map of subdivision No. 14221 subject
to the required water stock being delivered
and the recommendations of the City Engineer.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:

' Malone, Jumper. Noes: None. Absent: None.
Moved by Councilman Nasser, seconded by Council-
man Malone the City Clerk be instructed to
advertise for bids on the collection of garbage,
bids to be opened June 21st.

Malone, Jumper, Noes: None, Absent: None.
City Attorney Tscharner reported on the meeting
relative to the Smog Hearing.
It was recommended at this meeting that the
representatives of the various cities meet with
the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors
to work out a plan to control this nuisance.
Councilman Memmesheimer offered an ordinance
entitled:
AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING PERSONS OWNING OR
HAVING CHARGE, CARE, CUSTODY OR CONTROL OF
DOGS FROM ALLOWING THEM TO.RUN AT LARGE.
to be placed upon its first reading.
' This ordinance was then read for the first
time.
Councilman Malone offered an ordinance entitled.
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, REPEAL-
ING ORDINANCES NO. 395 AND 398 OF THE ORDINANCES
OF SAID CITY.
to be placed upon its first reading.
This ordinance was then read for the first time.
Councilman Malone offered a resolution entitled:
