The City Council of the City of Azusa met in
regular session at the above time and place.
Present at roll call: Councilmen: Nasser,
Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper, City
Attorney Tscharner and City Clerk. ROLL CALL
Absent: None.
Each member present acknowledged receipt of a
written copy of the minutes of August 2, 1948.
The Mayor asked if there were any objections or
corrections to said minutes. There being none,
the minutes of August 2, 1948 were approved as MINUTES APPROVED
written.
A letter from the League of California Cities
was read and ordered placed on file.
Councilman Malone offered a resolution entitled:
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
AZUSA APPROVING "AGREEMENT FOR ELECTRIC SERVICE"
BETWEEN THE CITY_OF AZUSA AND GENERAL FELT
PRODUCTS OF CALIFORNIA AND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR
TO SIGN AND THE CITY CLERK TO ATTEST SAME.
Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by
Councilman Ortuno this resolution be adopted as
read and numbered Resolution No. 2249. RESOLUTION N0. 2249
Carried by the following vote of the Council: ADOPTED
Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer,
Malone, Jumper. Noes: None. Absent: None.
Councilman Malone offered an ordinance entitled:
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, CREATING
A PLANNING COMMISSION.
to be placed upon its second reading.
Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by
Councilman Ortuno Council waive the further
reading of this ordinance.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:

Malone, Jumper. Noes: None, Absent: None.
Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Council-
man Memmesheimer this ordinance be adopted as
read and numbered Ordinance No. 407.

A Notification of Alcoholic Beverage License
Application f rom the State Board of Equalization LIQUOR LICENSE FOR
for "Off Sale General", made by John V. and FRY'S MARKET
Harold J. Fry, was read.
Moved and carried this matter be referred to
the Chief of Police.
The City Clerk reported on the result of City
employees' election to determine the approval
or disapproval of the proposal of the City to
enter into a contract with the Board of
Administration of the State Employees' Retire-
ment System, as follows:
Number of votes cast - 51
Yes - 42
No -9
A letter from John F. Bender relative to the
5 parcels of tax deeded land remaining unsold,
was read.

It was unanimously agreed that Council take
this matter under advisement until a later date.

A report made by V. D. Smith and Paul E. Kressly
relative to the bids received July 6, 1948 for
furnishing and installing Deep Well Turbine
Pump, Centrifugal Booster Pump, Electric Motors
and Electrical control Equipment at Well No. 49
was read. REPORT ON
PUMPS FOR WELL
Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Council- N0. 4

Smith and Paul E. Kressly be accepted.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:

Mr. L. Branch addressed Council relative to the
matter of holding public dances at the Rainbow PUBLIC DANCE
Angling Club on Saturday nights.
No action taken in this matter.
Mr. Trost addressed Council requesting use of
the lights over the tennis court for dancing TENNIS COURT
the evening of the Pennsylvania picnic. LIGHTS
The Superintendent of Light Department was
instructed to provide the necessary lights for
the dance.
Councilman Nasser offered an ordinance entitled:
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, PROVIDING
SPECIFICATIONS FOR NEW SUBDIVISIONS AND REPEALING ORDINANCE READ
ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT FOR FIRST TIME
WITH THIS ORDINANCE.
to be placed upon its first reading.
This ordinance was then read for the first time.

EXCHANGE CONTRACT OF SAID CITY WITH SAMUEL H.
RIPS, A COPY OF WHICH CONTRACT IS ON FILE IN THE
OFFICE OF THE CITY CLERK AND AUTHORIZING THE
MAYOR AND THE CITY CLERK TO SIGN AND ATTEST THE
SAME.

The matter of the City furnishing Title to
property purchased by P. E. Calvert, J. W.
Hankins and V. A. Owens, was referred to City
Attorney to report back.
Councilman Memmesheimer recommended that a new
motorcycle be purchased for use in the Police
Dept., quoting a price of $450.00 plus the old
machine.
Moved by Councilman Nasser, seconded by Council-
man Malone the Council accept the recommendation
of Councilman Memmesheimer to purchase a motor-
cycle for use in the Police Dept.

Superintendent V. D. Smith addressed Council
relative to the voltage required to carry on the
work of spot welding by the occupant of the
property on the corner of Ninth Street and
Azusa Ave.
Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Council-
man Nasser the following requisitions be
allowed: 2636-2639.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
