The City Council of the City of tizusa met in regular session at the above time and place. i Present at roll call: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper, City Attorney Tscharner and City Clerk. ROLL CALL Absent: None. The City Clerk announced that four bids had been received in answer to Notice Inviting Bids on BIDS,' cast iron pipe and fittings. ' Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Council- man Memmesheimer the bids be now opened, examined and publicly declared: Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Council- man Nasser the bids be now opened, examined and publicly declared. The Clerk announced that one bid had been received in answer to Notice Inviting Bids on a four door sedan for use in the police department. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Council- man Nasser the bid be now opened, examined and publicly declared: Carried by the following vote of the Council- Ayes: ounci1:Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper. Noes: None. Absent: None. A petition for zone variance as provided by Section 16 of the Zoning Ordinance No. 342 of the City of Azusa, offered by C. W. Thams and C. K. Warfield, together with the recommendation ZONE VARIANCE by the Planning Commission, was read. Moved by Councilman Malone that the report of the Planning Commission on the application for variance filed by C.W. Thams and C. K. Warfield covering Lots 46, 47, 48 in Block 52 be approved ' and variance granted upon the terms and conditions as set forth by the Planning Commission. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper. Noes: None. Absent: None. A communication signed by L. V. Ebersold, Chair- PLANNING man and Cornelius Smith, Secretary of the COMMISSION Planning Commission recommending that the City Council hold a public hearing in order to adopt a new zoning plan for the City and a new zoning ordinance and to repeal Ordinance No. 342, was read. Councilman Malone offered the following Resolution No. 2260. WHEREAS the City Planning Commission of the City of Azusa has filed with the City Council a recommendation dated Oct. 4, 1948 recommending a new zoning plan and new zoning ordinance for consideration by the City Council and repealing Ordinance No. 342, THEREFORE be it Resolved that the Notice of Public Hearing on the consideration of such Zoning Ordinance and new zone Plan be held at 7:30 P.M. on Wednesday the 20th day of October, 1948 and the City Clerk is hereby directed to publish Notice of said Hearing for two weeks in ' the Azusa Herald and Pomotropic; publication to appear on the 7th and 14th of October, 1948. Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Councilman Ortuno this resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 2260. Councilman Nasser offered a resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, GRANTING A ZONE VARIANCE TO MRS. WALTER DAWSON. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Council- man Memmesheimer this resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 2261. Carried by the following vote of theCouncil: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper. Noes: None. Absent: None. A communication from J. W. Johnson, Manager for the Associated Telephone Company, Ltd. relative ' to the installation of a Private Branch Exchange (PBX) in the City Hall, to reduce the number of trunk lines now in use, was read. Moved and carried the City Clerk be instructed to advise Mr. Johnson that Council feel the present telephone facilities are adequate. 7:30 P.M. Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Councilman Nasser the City Attorney be instructed to notify the City of Covina of the termination of the existing contract between the City of Azusa and the City of Covina covering radio service. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper Noes: None. Absent: None. The matter of the enforcement of Ordinance No. 404 controlling the picking up of rubbish in parkways and alleys was discussed and no further action taken. Mayor Jumper appointed Charles Shelton Vice Commander of Defense Council. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Council- man Memmeshe1hier Council approve the action of the Mayor._ Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Council- man Memmesheimer the Chief of Police be authorized to sign an agreement with The Depart- ment of Army creating a unit of Military Police for the purpose of working with the Army and the Army with the Police Department for the protection of the public. 399 RESOLUTION NO. 2260 ADOPTED RESOLUTION NO. e261 ADOPTED MR.
