HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - November 1, 1948 - CCCITY HALL, AZUSA, CALIFORNIA. NOVEMBER 19 1948. The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper, City Attorney Tscharner and City Clerk. Absent: None. A petition with 34 names attached thereto request- ing Council to abate the nuisance relative to the operation of a business located on property described as Lots 21-22-23 and 24 in Block 13. Miss Ruth Hoag and Mrs. Mildred Lee addressed Council in support of the petition. It was unanimously agreed this matter be referred to Councilman Memmesheimer and the Chief of Police for investigation and report. Mr. J. R. Bridge presented a petition with 15 names attached tnereto representing property owners within 300 feet of Lot 16, Block 32, giving their consent to the granting of an exception or variance to Mr. Bridge permitting him to erect a bungalow court on said lot with a set -back of 5 feet. Moved by Councilman Me:mnesheimer, seconded by Councilman Malone Mr. Bridge►s request for the privilege of constructing bungalow courts on Lot 16, Block 32 facing 8th Street be granted on the condition that there be a set -back of 5 feet from the north property line and 6 feet from the Pasadena Avenue property line. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper. Noes: None. Absent: None. Mr. Johathan Hannah of 937 W. permission to make ornaments them from his home address. 7:30 P.M. 3rd Street requested of wood and sell Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Councilman Malone Council must deny this request due to the fact that the address is out of zone. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper. Noes: None. Absent: None. Application for On Sale Beer and Wine License was offered. No action taken in this matter. Mr. Hollingsworth, representing the Omart Invest- ment Company, addressed Council relative to the construction of four building permits to erect dwellings on a parcel of land described as Lots 5 and 6 in Block "G", Subdivision No. 1 Azusa Land and Water Company. Moved and carried this matter be referred to the City Engineer for checking and report. Mr. Guadalupe Rosalez requested a zone variance on Lots 7 and 8 in Block 69. Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Councilman Malone this property be granted C-2 privileges on condition that 50,% of the property be reserved for off street parking, that a 10 foot set -back on Azusa Avenue be maintained and on further condition that Rosale z file a written acceptance of the above conditions before the variance becomes effective and on further condition that the building conform to the require- ments of Fire Zone No. 2 as set forth in City Ordinance No. 352. 419 ROLL CALL PETITION PRESENTED MR. A communication from City Engineer Kressly relative to the bids for furnishing automatic electric welded steel pipe and fittings, amount- ing to $14,281.75 was read. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Council- man Memmesheimer the bid of Southern Pipe and Casing be accepted as recommended by the City Engineer. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper. Noes: None. Absent: None. A communication from the Southern California Edison Company relative to the service for the residence of Henry E. Ralzliff, 221 Broadmoor Ave., was read. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Council- man Memmesheimer this request be granted. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper. Noes: None. Absent: None. A letter signed by C. E. Arnold, County Engineer relative to City of Azusa Ordinance No. 406 providing for the enforcement, by the County Engineer, of the Industrial Waste Ordinance, was read. Moved and carried same be placed on file. A request to use the City Auditorium on December 17th for a Christmas party, was offered by Mrs. Albert Rury, President of Slauson P.T.A. Moved and carried that same be granted. A request for soldier►s exemption, offered by James F. Rice, was read. Moved and carried same be granted provided Mr. Rice can present the proper authorization. A letter from E. J. Palo of the Jack Palo Equip- ment Company relative to sales tax, was read. Moved and carried same be referred to the City Attorney for reply. 7:30 P.M. It was unanimously agreed that the City Clerk be authorized and instructed to notify the City Tax Collector that he is to keep his office open from eight otclock A.M. continuously until 5:00 P.M. alternating the lunch hour and to open the office one-half day on Saturday until the 13th of December. Councilman Memmesheimer recommended that Ira Calvert be appointed Captain of the Azusa Fire Department. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Council- man Ortuno that Council accept the recommendation of Councilman Memmesheimer and Ira Calvert be made a Captain in the Azusa Volunteer Fire Department. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper. Noes: None. Absent: None. City Attorney reported on a meeting with Daley Stafford regarding Sanitary District. A SCHOOL CROSSING LIGHT was demonstrated.
