CITY HALL,-AZUSA, CALIFORNIA. MONDAY, DECEMBER 209 1948. 7:30 P.M.
The City Council of the City of Azusa met in
regular session at the above time and place.
Present at roll call: Councilmen: Ortuno,
Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper, City Attorney
and City Clerk. Absent: Councilman Nasser.
Each member present acknowledged receipt of a
written copy of the minutes of December 6, 1948.
The Mayor asked if there were any objections or
corrections to said minutes. There being none,
the minutes of December 6, 1948 were approved
as written.
A tentative map of Subdivision No. 15733 was
presented to Council by the Secretary of the
Planning Commission, with the recommendation
that it be approved after provision had been
made for sidewalks and curbs.
No further action taken at this time.
A tentative map of Subdivision No. 15711 was
presented for approval. The Planning Commission
recommended that the lots facing Tilden and
Palmer Avenues in this Subdivision be made to
conform with other lots in the City as to size
and location.
No action taken by Council at this time.
Mr. Penn Phillips presented a map of Subdivision
No. 12402 together with 117 shares of water stock,
a letter relative to certificate No. 1075, a
letter from the Title Insurance & Trust Co.
dated October 21, 1948, United Pacific Insurance
Company Bond No. 95180 for the Republic -Contract-
ing Company dated December 1, 1948, a letter
from Paul E. Kressly, dated December 13, 1948
and a letter from the Omart Investment Co. dated
December 15, 1948.
No further action taken in this matter.
A communication from Annette Durrell Sprague,
L. Durrell Hughes and Bernice Durrell advising
Council that if damage to their property should
result from rain fall due to the improvement
and the extension of Eighth Street, they will
be held responsible.
Also a communication from the above mentioned
persons objecting to having -their property zoned
under classification known as "Special Commercial"
and giving five reasons for their objection, were_
read and ordered placed on file.

A communication from the Planning Commission
recommending that Vernon Avenue between 1st and RECOMMENDATION
3rd streets be made a one-way street, was read. ON VERNON AVE.
Moved and carried Council take this under advise-
ment.
The petition of Ruby Holbert for the re -zoning
of property described as Lot 13, Block 59 from
an R-1 zone to an R-2 zone, was read.
The Planning Commission recommended that this
petition for zone variance be denied.
Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by
Councilman Ortuno, Council accept the
recommendation of the Planning Commission.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Ortuno, Malone, Memmesheimer,
Jumper. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Nasser.
A petition for zone variance on Lot 1 Black 63
from an R-2 zone to a C-2 zone, was o fere

this request be granted.
It was unanimously agreed this petition be PETITION FOR

23, 1948.
Councilman Malone offered a resolution entitled:
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
AZUSA RESCINDING THE FIRST READING OF ORDINANCE
N0, 409 AND RETURNING SAID ORDINANCE TO THE CITY
PLANNING COMMISSION FOR SOME CLARIFICATION.
Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by
Councilman Ortuno this resolution be adopted as
read and numbered Resolution No. 2276.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone,
Jumper. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Nasser.
Mr. Oliver addressed Council relative to the
business building under construction on property
described as Lot 22, Block 62. This property
under the new zoning ordinance is now out of
zone and Mr. Oliver was instructed to make
application for a zone variance.
Councilman Malone presented an ordinance entitled:
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES
COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING A CONTRACT -
BETWEEN THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA,
CALIFORNIA AND THE BOARD OF ADMINISTRATION.
to be placed upon its second reading.
This ordinance was then read for the second
time.
Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by
Councilman Malone this ordinance be adopted as
read and numbered Ordinance No. 411.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:

PUBLIC WORKS DIVISION OF HIGHWAYS, -STATE OF RESOLUTION NO.
CALIFORNIA, DATED DECEMBER 19 1948. 2277 ADOPTED
Moved by Councilman Ortuno, seconded by Council-
man Malone this resolution be adopted as read
and numbered Resolution No, 2277.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone,
Jumper. Noes: None. Absent: Councilman Nasser.
The matter of delinquent personal property tax
on property owned by R. N. Simpson of the Jumbo
Steel Company, was offered.
' It was unanimously agreed the City Clerk advise
Mr. Simpson the City Council has not altered
their decision made at the time of the hearing
before the Board of Equalization and that the
amount of $2586. plus interest at 8% or a total
of $2792.88 is due and payable to the City of
Azusa.
Omart Investment Company, Ltd* offered an
easement over the northerly five feet of Lot 7
and the southerly five feet of Lot 6 in ¢lock 81.
No action taken in this matter.
A letter was read from the Manager of the
New York Giants.

to advise the Heads of Departments that Friday
afternoon, December.24th will be observed as
Christmas Holiday,
