The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper, City ROLL CALL Attorney and City Clerk. Absent: None. Each member present acknowledged receipt of a written copy of the minutes of December 20 and 230 1948. The Mayor asked if there were any objections or corrections to said minutes. There being none, the minutes of December 20 MINUTES and 23, 1948 were approved as written. APPROVED Councilman Malone offered a resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA APPOINTING ALFRED M. RULOFSON TO MARE THE ANNUAL STREET REPORT OF THE CITY OF AZUSA TO THE OFFICE OF THE STATE CONTROLLER OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA. RESOLUTION NO. 2281 Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by ADOPTED Councilman Nasser this resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 2281. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper. Noes: None. Absent: None. A communication from Irving W. Parker, Public Relations Officer for the AMVETS relative to field tours, was read. Moved and carried this matter be referred to the City Attorney to report back. AMVETS LETTER REFERRED TO The Notice of Annual Meeting of the Azusa CITY ATTORNEY Agricultural Water Company was read. Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Councilman Nasser, Councilman Malone represent the City of Azusa at this meeting. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, COUNCILMAN Jumper. Noes: None. Absent: None. Councilman Malone not voting. MALONE APPOINT ED.TO REPRESEN The matter of lettering and installing the waste CITY paper receptables was referred to Councilman Nasser, with power to act. A communication signed by R. N. Simpson, President of the Jumbo Steel Products Co. relative to unsecured personal property tax, was read. R.N.SIMPSON'S Moved and carried the City Clerk be instructed to REQUEST REFER - answer Mr. Simpsonts letter and advise him as to CERA CITY the action taken by Council. A letter addressed to Ron. H. Allen Smith, State ' Assemblyman and signed by Charles C. McCall, ; City Manager of the City of Glendale, relative to the rapid transit facilities to be constructed or acquired by the district, was read. COMMUNICATION ON;RAPID Moved and carried the City Attorney be authorized TRANSIT to draft a letter to Assemblyman Geddes advising FACILITIES him of the opinion held by Council toward this REFERRED TO action. CITY ATTORNEY A letter addressed to the Planning Commission and signed by Bishop Moore, Attorney for Col. C. M. Coleman, relative to the re -zoning of Lots 9 and 10, Block C, Subdivision No. 1 Azusa Land and Water COMMUNICATION Company, was read and no further action taken. Pon relative to a communication dated December 14, 19489 signed by Annette Durrell Sprague, L. Durrell Hughes and Bernice Durrell, whereby it is stated the CITY CLERK IN - City will be held liable for damage to their STRUCTED TO WRITE property due to storm water. JOHN M. PON RELATIVE TO STORK A communication by J. W. Hankins, M.D. relative WATER DAMAGE to the zoning of property described as Lot 24, Block 4, City of Azusa, was read. TO PLANNING COM - MISSION Councilman Nasser presented the matter of an unfinished dugout at the baseball field and the use of a city owned public address system. Mayor Jumper appointed Councilman Nasser, Malone and Street Superintendent Wolfe a committee of IMPROVEMENTS FOR three to complete the dugout and install the BASEBALL FIELD public address system. REFERRED TO COMMITTEE Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Councilman Ortuno Council approve the action of the Mayor. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Jumper. Noes: None. Absent: None. Councilmen Nasser and Malone not voting. A report submitted by L. S. Farrell, Sanitary Engineer, on the Slauson Memorial swimming REPORT ON SWIM - pool, was read. MING POOL REFER- RED TO COMMITTEE Moved and carried this matter be referred to Councilman Nasser and Ortuno to contact service clubs and report back to Council. CBty Attorney Tscharner reported that the New York Giants will use the baseball field NEW YORK GIANTS February 2-3-4-5, 1949 for try -outs. Moved by Councilman Nasser, seconded by Council- man Malone, Councilman Memmesheimer be authorized to invite the Police Chiefs to Azusa in February or March of this year. Councilman Malone offered a resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING V. D. SMITH TO ACCEPT THE BID ON TWO 1/2 TON PICKUP TRUCKS WITH INCREASE IN PRICE. RESOLUTION NO. 2282 ADOPTED Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Council- man Memmesheimer this resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 2282. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper. Noes: None. Absent: None.
