MAY 9, 1949. 7:30 P.M. 29 The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular adjourned session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper, City Attorney ROLL CALL Tscharner and City Clerk. Attorney Miller addressed Council relative to the application of Mr. W. H. Jonkey to operate a Serve Yourself Service Station on the property located at the corner of Georgia Street and SERVE YOURSELF ' Foothill Boulevard. SERVICE STATION Mr. Walter H. Jonkey addressed Council relative to this application and offered two letters from Insurance Companies. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Councilman Ortuno this matter be referred to the Chief of Police and the Chief of the Fire Department to investigate and report back to Council. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper. Noes: None. Absent: None. Mr. N. H. Wolley, operator of the Azusa Motor Bus AZUSA BUS Company, addressed Council requesting permission ,FRANCHISE to change the route outlined in the Franchise. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Councilman Memmesheimer, Mr. Wolleyls request be referred to the City Attorney to report back. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper. Noes: None. Absent: None. ' Mr. Wayne C. Dinwitty of 215 S. Lemon Ave., verbally requested the installation of street REQUEST FOR lights in the vicinity of his home. STREET LIGHTS Council advised Mr. Dinwitty to contact the residents in the block and report his findings to Superintendent V. D. Smith. Councilman Nasser reported the light on the badminton court is in need of repair; he also reported on the cost of folders being printed COST OF HOLDERS for the Chamber of Commerce, on the cost of an EXHIBIT AND ADD exhibit for the Los Angeles County Fair and an add in the Monrovia paper. Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Councilman Ortuno the City pay 50% of the cost of the foldbra, 50% of the cost of the exhibit for the Fair, and 50% of the cost of the add to be inserted in the Monrovia paper. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper. Noes: None. Absent: None. ' Mayor Jumper appointed a committee of four to investigate the condition of the James Jones JAMES JONES Company Foundry. FOUNDRY Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Council- man Ortuno the City Clerk be instructed to advertise for bids for the purchase of used billing machines in the Water and Light Depart- CITY CLERK ment; also to advertise for bids on copper wire and three new transformers. INSTRUCTED TO ADVERTISE FOR Bids to be opened June 6, 1949. Carried by the following vote of the Council: BIDS Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper. Noes: None.
