Thereupon the bid was opened and read by Mrs. Gizella M. Allen, representing Special City Attorney Bender, and publicly declared. The bid is as follows: Description of Property Name of Bidder Amount of Bid ' Lot 35, Block 20, Map of Azusa R. E. Ibbetson $650.00 Mrs. Allen asked for oral bids from any person desiring to bid upon this property. There being no oral bids the written bid was duly considered by Council and accepted, it being the higest bid received by the City pursuant to the following entitled resolution. A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, ACCEPTING BID, QUITCLAIM DEED ONLY, TO CITY OWNED REAL PROPERTY. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Council- man Ortuno this resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 2312. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper., Noes: None. Absent: None.. A communication from Attorney John F. Bender relative to property described as Lot 10, Block 83, Azusa, was read. ' It was unanimously agreed this property be retained by the City for a possible public park. The Deputy City Clerk sn nounced that five bids had been received in answer to Notice Inviting Bids for electrical equipment. Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Councilman Malone the bids be now opened, examined and publicly declared. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper. Noes: None. Absent: None. MONDAY, JUNE 20, 1949. 7:30 P.M A' The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session at the above time and place. Present at roll calls Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper, City Attorney Tscharner and Deputy City Clerk. Absent: City Clerk. Each member present acknowledged receipt of a written copy of the minutes of June 6, 1949• The Mayor asked if there were any objections or corrections to said minutes. There being none, the minutes of June 6, 1949 were approved as ' written. Mr. Wm. J. Holden, Chairman of the Azusa branch of the American Red Cross, addressed Council regarding their work and the inadequacy of the present office facilities. No action taken. MONDAY, JUNE 20, 1949• ELECTRIC WHOLESALE MART GENERAL ELECTRIC COMPANY (Bids on file in the office of City Clerk) The Deputy City Clerk announced that two bids had been received in answer to Notice Inviting Bids on two used billing machines. Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by ' Councilman Malone the bids be now opened, examined and publicly declared. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper. Noes: None. ,Absent: None. AZUSA IRRIGATING COMPANY - $250.00 CITY OF BREA - $250.00 Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Councilman Malone the bids be referred to Councilman Nasser, with power to act. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper. Noes: None. Absent: None. An application requesting use of the Azusa City Park was presented by -R. F. Minney, Company Servant, Azusa Company, Jehovah's Witnesses. It was unanimously agreed this request be granted for the first meeting and that thereafter Mr. Minney check with the City Clerk's office before each meeting and permission then -be granted, if the park is not in use. ' Harold Ames, Chairman of the Azusa Youth Program requested use of the City Park. No action taken, but further information requested. A communication signed by Mrs. Bailey Cook and Mrs. Leo Harlan relative to placing a signal at the intersection of Dalton Avenue and the Santa Fe Tracks, was read. Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Councilman Nasser this matter be referred to the City Attorney to check with the Santa Fe Railway Compm y relative to signals at the intersection of the Santa Fe tracks with Dalton and Pasadena Avenues. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper. Noes: None, Absent: None. A notification of Alcoholic Beverage License Application from the State Board of Equalization, requested by the Park Beverage Company, was read and referred to the Chief of Police. ' Petitions with approximately 231 names attached thereto, protesting the proposed ordinance regulating the sale of inflammable liquids, was presented. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Council- man Ortuno further consideration of this ordinance be postponed until July 5th, 1949. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper. Noes: None. Absent: None. Mr. Wm. J. City Attorney Tseharner reported the Assets Reconstruction Corporation had requested a release of all the City's interest in Bank of ' America National Trust Savings Association Trust No. BA243, respecting certain lots in Tract 8507. In view of the fact that the City's interest in all the lots and premises in this tract have been sold to the Azusa Rock & Sand Company, the matter was referred to the City Attorney with instructions to ascertain the position of the Azusa Rock and Sand Company with reference to same and report at the next regular meeting. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Councilman Nasser the City Clerk be authorized to advertise for bids for the construction and completion of a building to be used as rest rooms and for storage purposes to be erected in the Azusa Memorial Park, bids to be opened July 5, 1949. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper. Noes: None. Absent: None. Councilman Memmesheimer offered a resolution - entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ' AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING THE STREET SUPERINTENDENT TO ERECT STOP SIGNS ON THE CORNER OF THIRD STREET AND CONEY AVENUE AND AUTHORIZING THE CHIEF OF POLICE TO ENFORCE SUCH REGULATION. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Council- man Ortuno this resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 2313. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper. Noes: None. Absent: None. Mayor Jumper nominated Councilman Memmesheimer to act as Mayor pro -tem during his absence from June 24 to July 4, 1949. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Councilman Nasser the nomination of Councilman Memmesheimer be approved and he act as Mayor pro -tem from June 24 to July 41 1949. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper, Noes: None. Absent: None. Superintendent of Light and Water V. D. Smith reported on the bids submitted for electrical equipment, recommending that the City purchase wire from Westinghouse Electric Supply Co., service entrance cable from Cook -Nichols Company, and transformers from Maydwell and Hartzell. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Council- man Nasser the recommendation of the Light and Water Superintendent be accepted and checks returned to the unsuccessful bidders.
