Mr. F. Beckett addressed council relative to his
program for the re -opening of the Slauson Memorial
Swimming Pool, stating that various service clubs
had donated labor and business men had donated MR BECKETT
material to put the pool in condition.
Hickory Jackson representing the Civitan Club,
Dan Martin the Kiwanis Club, Father Healey re-
presenting the Park and Recreation Commission
and Mr. Farrell, one of the Engineers who had
donated his work, were present.
Father Healey, representing the Park and Recreat-
ion Commission, reported to council that a meet-
ing of the Commission was held on August 26, 1949
at 7:30 P.M. to consider the project of the Slauson
Memorial Pool and recommended that the city council
permit the work of rehabilitating the pool to the
extent only that the donations in money, labor
and material would permit, and without expendit-
ure of city funds except that the city furnish
the chlorinator.
After some discussion it was moved by Council-
man Ortuno, seconded by Councilman Meminesheimer
that the City Council authorize the work to be
done on the Slauson Memorial Swimming Pool to
the extent only that the donations permit, and
not in excess of what the donations pay for;
that the work be placed under the supervision
of F. Beckett, Mr. Spaulding, Mr. Farrell and
City Engineer Ralph Brooks and that before the
pool is open to the public the written certi-
ficate of purity and health of water be obtain-
ed from the County Health Authorities and a
written opinion from City Engineer Brooks as to
the safety of the pool and further that the City
furnish the necessary chlorinator.
Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Councilman
Memmesheimer and duly carried council adjourn.
