Present at roll call: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper, City ROLL CALL Clerk. Absent: City Attorney. Each member present acknowledged receipt of a written copy of the minutes of August 15th, 1949, and the Special meeting of August 26th, 1949. The Mayor asked if there were any ob- MINUTES APPROVED ' joctions or corrections to said minutes. There being none, the minutes of August 15th, 1949 and August 26th, 1949 were approved as written. The Clerk announced that six bids were receiv- ed in answer to Notice Inviting Bids on a sedan for use in the Police Department. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Council- man Memmesheimer the bids be now opened, ex- BIDS OPENED amined and publicly declared. A letter of appreciation from the American Red Cross was read and ordered placed on COMMUNICATIONS file. ORDERED PLACED ON FILE A written complaint relative to the collect- ion of garbage and the manner in which the garbage pails are handled was presented by Edward J. Strom. ' Councilman Malone offered a resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGEIE S COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, GRANTING A VARIANCE TO ROY C. RESOLUTION NO. 2336 ARNOLD APPLICABLE TO LOT 1, BLOCK 60 IN ADOPTED THE CITY OF AZUSA. Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Councilman Ortuno this resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 2336. Noes: None Absent: None A NOTICE OF INTENTION TO CIRCULATE AN INITIATIVE PETITION IN AZUSA, CALIFORNIA, INITIATIVE PETITION was presented to the Council. No action was taken in this matter. Councilman Malone offered a resolution ' entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, LEVYING TAXES AND FIXING THE RESOLUTION N0. 2337 RATE OF ALL PROPERTY IN SAID CITY FOR ADOPTED ALL MUNICIPAL PURPOSES AND TO PAY THE BONDED INDEBTEDNESS AND INTEREST ON THE SAME FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 19+9-1950. Noes: None Absent: None A tentative map of Tract No. 13791 was pre- sented to Council with a recommendation from the Planning Commission that the map TENTATIVE MAP OF be not approved until the size of the lots TRACT NO. 13791 are changed to accomodate industrial re- quirements. Moved and carried this matter be referred to the City Engineer to report back. CERTAIN RATES Moved and carried this matter be referred to the City Attorney. 90CAa � m � w .cq CITY HALL, AZUSA, CALIFORNIA, TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 1949 Mr. Ray Petracek addressed Council advising them that the Slauson Memorial Swimming Pool was opened on Saturday, September 3rd, with a large number of young people in at- tendance. He stated that Mrs. Doris Bes- sire was in charge of the office and a life guard is on duty at all times, also that in his opinion it would be wise to make a 10 cent charge rather than permitting free admittance. Moved by Councilman Ortuno, seconded by Councilman Memmesheimer that Mr. Petracek be given authorization to make a charge of 10 cents per person. SWIMMING POOL RATES Mr. Karl Jones reported on the sanitary con- dition relative to storm water at the inter- COMPLAINT ON STORM section of First Street and Soldano Avenue. [NATER. This matter was referred to the City Engineer to report back. Mr. W. Kloefer addressed council relative to the manner employed in establishing civil service for the city departments. W. KLOEFER'ON CIVIL Mayor Jumper said council would consider the SERVICE suggestions offered. Mayor Jumper reported that council was con- sidering the requests made by the Azusa Voters' Association. Karl Jones reported that Miss Hoag had ad- vised him that the Fabristamp Corporation ' continued to annoy the neighbors with noise at night. Miss Hoag was advised that there would be no expense in filing a complaint against this company. City Engineer Brooks reported on the five districts referred to him for improvement under the 1911 Street Improvement Act. Council instructed Mr. Brooks to prepare the necessary specifications for the im- provement of Fifth Street from Virginia Avenue west to Coney Avenue on both the north and south sides of the street; the work on the City property to be done by the City. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Councilman Ortuno the City Engineer be in- structed to prepare plans and specifications for the improvement of Orange Avenue from First Street to Fifth Street. Noes: None Absent: None Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by ' Councilman Ortuno the City Engineer and City Attorney be instructed to secure a right-of-way from the Azusa Rock and Sand Company and the Azusa Foothill Citrus Company on the westerly prolongation of First Street and to prepare plans mid specifications and estimates for this improve- ment to be presented to the State Highway Department.
