Present at roll call: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper, City Attorney, City Engineer and City Clerk. ROLL CALL Absent: None Each member present acknowledged receipt of a written coy of the minutes of ' November 21, 1999. The Mayor asked if there were any objections or corrections to said minutes. There being none, the minutes of November 21, 1949, were approved as written. The City Clerk announced that there were four bids received in answer to notice inviting bids on scrap metal. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Councilman Memmesheimer the bids be now opened, examined and publicly de - 7:30215 P.M. MINUTES APPROVED BIDS ON SCRAP METAL clared. The 76 is the result of many years experience in building sixes. The 88 is a newer car with the now famous Kettering High Compression "Rocket" 8 -cylinder V" type engine.- This is, we think, -the quickest and tastest automobile manu- factured today. It has proved itself very trouble free and highly economical. As a police unit it would have no superior. Noes: None Absent: None Councilman Memmesheimer offered an ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE DECLARING THE INTENTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, PASSED AND - ADOPTED BY SAID CITY'COUNCIL, TO VACATE AND ABANDON CERTAIN STREETS AND ALLEYS HEREINBE- LOW DESCRIBED LOCATED IN TRACT NO. 8507 OF AZUSA AS PER MAP RECORDED IN BOOK 102 AT PAGES 78 TO 80 INCLUSIVE, OF MAPS RECORDS IN THE OFFICE OF THE COUNTY RECORDER OFLOSANGELES COUNTY. be placed upon its second reading. The title of this ordinance was then read. Rolla E. Clapp addressed Council relative to the abandonin of certain streets and alleys in Tract 8507. Mr. Leland Brower, representing R. E. Clapp and Mr. A. L. Miller representing the Azusa Rock & Sand Company also addressed Council concerning this matter. 7:30 221 P.M. Mr. Grandin addressed Council relative to the construction of new homes to be erected in Paramount Manor or Tract No. 15711. Mr. Grandin also introduced his plan for the continuation of Lemon Avenue from Paramount Avenue south. No action was taken in this matter. The Azusa City Planning Commission offered a recommendation that the James Jones Company and George Humiston be granted a Special Permit to erect and operate a foundry on the premises des- cribed as a portion of Lot 55 of Sub. #2 Azusa Land and Water Company. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Councilman Ortuno this recommendation be accepted. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer; Malone, Jumper. Noes: None Absent: None The Azusa City Planning Commission offer- ed a recommendation granting J. H. Hess permission to divide the property describ- ed as a portion of Lot 88 of Sub. #2, Azusa Land and Water Co. into four lots;, three of which are to be 60, a 1151 and one to be 55+ a 1151., - - Moved by Councilman -Nasser, seconded by Councilman Memmesheimer Council accept the recommendation of the Planning Commission without reference to building construction thereon aid with the under- standing that sidewalks are to be in- cluded along 5th Street and Cerritos Avenue. Noes: None Absent: None Councilman Memmesheimer offered a resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA CONCERNING THE ' CORRECTION OF WRITTEN REPORT REQUIRED BY THE SPECIAL ASSESSMENT INVESTIGATION, AND MAJORITY PROTEST ACT OF 1931 AND RESOLUTION NO. 2160. Moved by Councilman Nasser, seconded by Councilman Ortuno this resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 2363. Noes: None Absent: None A Notification of Alcoholic Beverage License Application from the State Board of Equalization for Roy G. and Richard K. Thayer, was read. No action taken on this matter. A communication from the Omart Investment Company relative to the condition of certain lots on South Azusa Avenue where a pile of dead orange trees create a fire hazard was read and referred to the Police and ' Fire Departments. Mayor Jumper.re-appointed Everett Morgan to serve as a member of the Azusa Planning Commission, his term of'office to expire July 1, 1953• Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Councilman Ortuno Council approve the action of the Mayor. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, Malone, Jumper. Noes: None Absent: None Mr. R. Malim addressed Council relative to the condition of an unfinished house at 730 W. Third Street, stating that the structure was started in July of 1946, was not finished and that the orange trees in the rear were permitted to die, thus creating a fire hazard. This matter was referred to the Fire Chief. A request for a business license was offer- ed by Rudolph Dufek to operate a cafe with on sale beer, was read. Moved by Councilman Ortuno, seconded by Mayor Jumper the license collector be granted permission to issue Mr. Dufek a business license to operate a cafe at 110 N. Azusa Avenue. Mayor Jumper suggested that no further action be taken at this time relative ' to the Canyon City Post No. 180 request to move the present building which serves this organization. Councilman Malone offered a resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE MAYOR OF SAID CITY TO SIGN NOTICE OF COM- PLETION OF CERTAIN WORK DONE IN BLOCK 30 MAP OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA. Noes: None Absent: None City Attorney Tsoharner offered the contract between the City of Azusa and Ralph S. Brooks, City Engineer. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Councilman Memmesheimer the Mayor and City Clerk be authorized and instructed to sign the contract between theCity and Mr. Brooks and a copy thereof placed on file in the Clerk's office. Noes: Noce Absent: None City Engineer Brooks was instructed to proceed with the plans for the rehabilitat- ion of the Slauson Memorial Pool and to have plans ready so that the City may call for bids not later than February 1, 1950. A communication from the Planning Commission recommending that the Rainbow Angling Club be granted permission to hang a sign on East Foothill Blvd., was read. ' Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Councilman Memmesheimer Council accept the recommendation of the Planning Commission relative to the application of the Rainbow Angling Club to place a Neon sign at the southeast corner of Pasadena Avenue and Foothill Blvd, be granted on the condition that the sign be erected on private property, that the sign not overlap the sidewalk and must not exceed 4' x 01 in size.
