The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Memmesheimer, City Attorney Tscharner, City Engineer Brooks, Street Supt. Wolfe and City Clerk. ROLL CALL Absent: Councilman Malone. Each member present acknowledged receipt of a written copy of the minutes of the regular meeting of December 19, 1949, and ' the adjourned meeting of December 27, 1949. The Acting Mayor asked if there were any MINUTES APPROVED objections or corrections to said minutes. There being none, the minutes of December 19, 1949 and December 27, 1949, were approved as written. Mr. Grandin addressed Council and present- ed Mr. Whitney of the Bell Construction Company who requested information relative to the required setback on corner lots, TRACT NO. 15711 in Tract No. 15711. A letter from the Planning Commission recommending the amendment of certain sections of Ordinance No. 409, was read. Moved and carried Council advise the City Clerk to notify the members of the Planning Commission and the Building Inspector to be present at the adjourned meeting of Council on the 9th of January at which time this matter will again be brought up for MEMBERS OF PLAN - discussion, NING COMMISSION ' TO ATTEND COUNCIL The Clerk announced that four bids had MEETING been received in answer to Notice Invit- ing Bids on copper wire. Noes: None Absent: Counciman Malone Councilman Ortuno offered an ordinance entitled: AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, REGUTA TING ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS IN SAID CITY OF AZUSA AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT THEREWITH. to be placed upon its second reading. Noes: None Absent: Councilman Malone A communication from the secretary of the Planning Commission recommending that four palm trees in front of the property located at 750 W. Foothill Blvd. be removed, was read. Moved by Councilman Nasser, seconded by Councilman Ortuno Council accept the recommendation of the Planning Commission. Noes: None Absent: Councilman Malone A Notice, signed by ten members of the Azusa Voters' Association, advising Council of the -intention to circulate a petition for an initiative election to restrict the mining of rock for commercial pur- poses within the pity of Azusa and re- questing Council to restrict the mining of rock for commercial purposes until such time as the people of Azusa are allowed to vote on the proposed measure, was read. This ordinance was then read for the first time. City Attorney Tscharner read a written report on his findings relative to the statutes governing the abandoning of streets. Mr. Seltzer, Mr. Brower, Mr. Tscharner, Mr. Farrell and Mr.Owen discussed the passage of the ordinance of intention calling a hearing in the matter of the abandoning of streets and alleys in Tract 8507. After further discussion Council set the date of January 16, 1950s at 7:30 P.M. for the Hearing in this matter. An Agreement between the City of Azusa and the Aerojet Corporation relative to a water line extending from the center of Third Steeet and Virginia Avenue to theAerojet Plant, was presented. ' Councilman Nasser offered a resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING THE ACTING MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO SIGN AN AGREE- MENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF AZUSA AND THE AEROJET CORPORATION ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, THE ORIGINAL OF WHICH IS ON FILE IN THE OFFICE OF THE CITY CIE RK. Moved by Councilman Nasser, seconded by Councilman Ortuno this resolution be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 2388. Noes: None Absent: Councilman Malone Councilman Nasser offered a resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, ' CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF AZUSA TO PURCHASE SUFFICIENT LANDS WITHIN 500 FEET OF THE EXISTING CITY WATER RESERVOIR WHICH IS LOCATED ADJACENT TO THE INTER- SECTION OF AN ALLEY WITH SIERRA MADRE AVENUE, WHICH RESERVOIR IS NECESSARY TO INSURE SUFFICIENT WATER SUPPLY FOR THE INHABITANTS OF SAID CITY. Councilman Nasser offered a resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA &PROVING AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF AZUSA AND H. J. LELAND AND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO SIGN AND THE CITY CLERK TO ATTEST SAME. Noes: None Absent: Councilman Malone The City Attorney announced that this is the time and place set for the Hearing on the Debt Limit Report for Project No. 7 at which all protests and objections will be heard. HEARING ON A petition with eight signatures attach- PROJECT NO. 7 ed thereto was offered requesting Council to abandon the proceedings. After discussion on the part of the Property owners in favor of the im- provement and those who are not in favor, it was moved by Councilman Nasser, seconded by Councilman Ortuno that Council continue the Hearing on the Debt Limit Report for Project No. 7 until Monday, January 9, 1950, at 7:30 P.M. Carried by the following vote of Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Me=esheimer. Noes: None Absent: Councilman Malone. Councilman Nasser reported that he had contacted Mrs. Gladys Alexander and she agreed to serve as a member of the GLADYS ALEXANDER Planning Commission, if appointed.
