The City Council of the City of Azusa
met in regular session at the above
time and place.
Present at roll call: Councilmen Nasser,
Flannery, Malone, Memmesheimer, City ROLL CALL
Attorney Tscharner and City Clerk.
Absent: Councilman Ortuno.
Each member present acknowledged receipt
of a written copy of the minutes of the
regular meeting of January 16th and the
1 Special Meeting of January 26th, 1950.
The Mayor asked if there were any ob-
jections or corrections to said minutes.
There being none, the minutes of January
16th and January 26th, 1950, were approv-
ed

ed as written.
A letter of appreciation from Mrs. Harry
D. Jumper was read and ordered placed on
file.
A letter from the Los Angeles County
X -Ray Survey Foundation was read and
placed on file.
Notice'of the next dinner meeting of
the League of California Cities was
read and ordered placed on file.
City Attorney Tscharner reported on the
recommendation of the Planning Commission
relative to the approval of Tract No.
15432, advising Council that he talked
with Judge Durrell concerning the open-
ing of dead-end streets leading from -the
new subdivision through Mr. Durrell's
Property.
Mr. Durrell was of the opinion that
his family were reluctant to permit
such a change.
Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded
by Councilman Nasser that the tentative
map of Tract #15432 be referred back to
the Planning Commission, together with
the report of City Attorney Tscharner,
for further discussion and report.
Carried by the following report of Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Flannery,
Malone, Memmesheimer.
Noes: None Absent: Councilman Ortuno
The Canyon City Post of the American
Legion, Post No. 180, made written
application for a license to promote
and conduct boxing matches at the
National Guard Armory.
Moved by Councilman Nasser, seconded
by Councilman Flannery the license be
issued with the provision that all re-
quirements of City ordinances governing
this type of business be complied with.
Carried by the following vote of Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Flannery, Malone,
Memmesheimer.
Noes: None Absent: Councilman Ortuno

thereto petitioning the City Council
to refrain from passing or initiating
any ordinance or resolution to vacate
streets in Tract 8507 without first
making, for the protection of the public,
a legally binding provision to prohibit
mining in that tract, was offered.
Moved and carried the petition be placed
on file.
Mr. A. Selzer and Mr. Bower addressed
Council relative to this matter.
Mayor Memmesheimer suggested to Mr.
Bower he file a written protest rather
than present verbal opposition to
limiting the easement to ten feet in
this tract.
Councilman Malone offered an ordinance
entitled:
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY,
CALIFORNIA, DECLARING ITS INTENTION TO
VACATE AND ABANDON CERTAIN STREETS
AND ALLEYS HEREINBELOW DESCRIBED LOCAT-
ED IN TRACT NO. 8507 OF AZUSA AS PER
MAP RECORDED IN BOOK 102 AT PAGES 78
TO 80 INCLUSIVE, OF MAPS RECORDS IN THE
OFFICE OF THE COUNTY RECORDER OF LOS
ANGELES COUNTY.
to be placed upon its first reading.
This ordinance was then read for the
first time.

City Attorney Tscharner stated that
he wanted to express his personal
commendation to the Supt, of Water and
Light Departments for the efficient
work of the department in the change-
over from 50 to 60 cycle system, as
the work of the said department and their
cooperation with the Southern California
Edison Company was largely responsible
for the reduced cost to the City for
said change -over.
Mayor Memmesheimer appointed Councilman
Nasser Chairman of the Public Utilities
Committee and Councilman Flannery Chair-
man of Finance Committee.
Moved and carried Council accept the
action of the Mayor.
Mayor Memmesheimer appointed Council-
man Flannery to represent the City of
Azusa on the Board of Directors of the
League of California Cities.
Moved by Councilman Nasser, seconded
by Councilman Malone and duly carried
Council approve the action of the Mayor.

Mr. A. L. Kendrick, Chief of Police
Azuaa, California
Dear Sir:
I hereby request that I be granted a
leave of absence from my duty as Traffic
Officer with the Azusa Police Department,
for Military Duty, for the purpose of
attending the U. S. Army Criminal In-
vestigation School at Camp Gordon,
Georgia, for approximately 20 weeks,
beginning February 16, 1950.
