The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session at the above time and place. Present at roll call: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Flannery, Malone, Memmesheimer, City Attorney and ROLL CALL Deputy City Clerk. Absent: City Clerk. A communication addressed to Mayor Memmesheimer from the Brown School for Girls relative to the erection BROWN SCHOOL of a sign on Azusa Avenue aid Sierra Madre Avenue, was read. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Councilman Ortuno this matter be referred to Street Supt. Wolfe aid the City Clerk be instructed to notify the Brown School of the action taken by the Street Supt. Carried by the following vote of Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Flannery, Malone, Memmesheimer, Noes: None Absent: None Councilman Malone reported to Council on investigation of garbage contract bids and recommended that the bid be awarded to the present collectors, Conrad and Richardson. Moved by Councilman Nasser, seconded by Councilman Ortuno Mr. Malone's recommendation be accepted and Conrad ' and Richardson be instructed to renew their bond. Carried by the following vote of Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasaer, Ortuno, Flannery, Malone, Memmesheimer, Noes: None Absent: None Mayor Memmedieimer announced that members of Council had held a meeting with the City Auditor, Alfred M. Rulofson, Saturday afternoon relative to money available for repairs and alterations of the Slauson Memorial Swimming Pool. The auditor had advised Council that awarding a contract the size of the present pro- posed plans would create a financial hardship on the City's finaices as only $10,000 had been set-up in the budget for that purpose. Mr. Memmesheimer stated that not only a financial burden would be created but that the water supply would also be im- paired. Council was advised by the ' Water Department at the meeting held Saturday that the City must have water reserve by July 11 1950 and that building up such a reserve would necessitate a large expenditure. After general discussion, it was moved by Councilman Nasser, seconded by Councilman Ortuno that the bids in consideration be tabled for action by the new Council after the election of April 110 1950. Carried by the following vote of Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Flannery, Malone, Memmesheimer. Noes: None Absent: None GARBAGE COLLECTION CONTRACT AWARDED SLAUSON POOL SWIMMING POOL BIDS TABLED FOR NEW COUNCIL ACTION (U'OCAa _ _ — CITY HALL, AZUSA, CALIFORNIA, MONDAY, APRIL 10, 1950 7:30 365 P.M. Mr. Whitney of Ellsco ad Bell Construction PAVING OF Company discussed the paving of Paramount PARAMOUNT AVE. Avenue with Council and City Engineer Brooks. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Councilman Nasser this matter be referred to Mr. Brooks with instructions to contact the County regarding the advance of money for improvement of Paramount Avenue and report back to Council and Mr. Whitney. Councilman Nasser offered a resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING A CERTAIN LEASE AGREEMENT DATED APRIL 10 , 1950, WHEREIN SAID CITY OF AZUSA IS NATE D AS °LESSOR° AND THE GIRL SCOUTS ASSOCIATION.COUNCIL OF AZUSA, CALIFORNIA, A CORPORATION, IS NAMED AS °LESSEE° AND AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR OF SAID CITY TO SIGN THE SAME AND TIE CITY CLERK TO ATTEST SAME. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded RESOLUTION NO. by Councilman Flannery this resolution 2389 ADOPTED be adopted as read and numbered Resolution No. 2389 . Carried by the following vote of Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Flannery, Malone, Memmesheimer. Noes: None Absent: None City Engineer Brooks asked Council whether ' bid checks on the swimming pool alterations should be returned. Council advised that SWIMMING POOL checks will be held pending action of the new Council. George Blazer addressed Council commending them upon their decision to table the swimming pool alterations in favor of building a water reserve. Stanley Detwiler, representing the Baseball Commission, addressed Council asking for cooperation in the maintenance of the ball diamond at Memorial Park. Mr. Detwiler was advised that Council had been glad to cooperate in this expenditure in the past and would be willing to in the future, but requested him to present his request to the new Council inasmuch as all of the present counci members would not be functioning when this expenditure occurs. Council recommended, however, that the request of the Baseball Commission for cooperation in paying $25 weekly for a ' maintenance man, insofar as the fund will cover, be considered. Council also requested Street Supt. Wolfe to arrange for having the ball park dragged and watered for the games. Mr. Farley Beckett filed with Council a letter from the Arora Pump Company for future use and thanked Council for their support in opening the swimming pool during last years season. Moved by Councilman Malone, seconded by Councilman Nasser the following bill be allowed and a warrant ordered drawn upon the Treasury for the same: Carried by the following vote of Council: BILLS Ayes: Councilmen: Nasser, Ortuno, Flannery, Malone, Memmesheimer.
