SUBJECT: ACCEPTANCE OF PROJECT COMPLETION AND AUTHORIZATION TO FILE A
NOTICE OF COMPLETION FOR THE AZUSA AVENUE AND FIFTH STREET
PARKING LOT IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT NO. 73017D
SUMMARY:
On January 3, 2017, the City Council awarded a contract to El Camino Asphalt Paving Corp. for the
Azusa Avenue and Fifth Street Parking Lot Improvements Project No. 73017D. The project was
completed on June 21, 2017. The proposed actions will accept the project improvements and authorize
Staff to file a Notice of Completion for the project.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the City Council take the following actions:
1) Accept the project improvements; and
2) Authorize Staff to file a Notice of Completion for the Azusa Avenue and Fifth Street Parking Lot
Improvements Project No. 73017D.
DISCUSSION:
The completed project converted a City-owned vacant lot located at the southeast corner of Azusa
Avenue and Fifth Street into a parking lot. The new parking lot includes 23 parking spaces, two ADA
accessible spaces, two electric vehicle charging spaces, and is illuminated with two solar-powered LED
lights. This parking lot is expected to accommodate downtown business owners and their employees,
freeing up parking spaces in the adjacent parking lots for customers. Staff has collaborated with
downtown business owners to inform them of the new parking lot and encourage them to park in the
new parking lot.

FISCAL IMPACT:
The proposed recommendations have no fiscal impact. The project was funded with Azusa Light and
Water Department Electric Funds and was completed within budget at a total construction cost of
$69,431.55 under project 73017D.
