The City Council"of the City of Azusa
met in regular adjourned session at
the above time and place.
Present at roll call: Councilmen:
Jackson, Ortune, Seltzer, Memmesheimer,
Jones, City Engineer Brooks, Acting City
Attorney Snidow, Deputy City Clerk.
Absent: City Clerk.
Mayor Jones announced that a meeting
had been held with Alfred M. Rulofson,
Auditor for the City, regarding avail-
ability of funds for the swimming pool
project.
Robert Snyder, chairman of the engineer-
ing group investigating alterations to
Slauson Memorial Pool, discussed with
Council the various features of alterations
and again pointed out the saving possible
by use of City labor and equipment.

Moved by Councilman Seltzer, seconded by
Councilman Jackson this resolution be adopt-
ed as read and numbered Resolution No. 2408.
Carried by the following vote of Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Jackson, Ortuno,
Seltzer, Jones.
Noes: Councilman Memmesheimer.
Absent: None
General supervision of repairs to Slauson
Memorial Pool was placed with the Public
Works Committee with a request that
periodic progress reports be presented to
Council.
A communication from the Azusa City Planning
Commission recommending the moving of a
residence by Eddie Kuhn from 724. W. Fifth
Street to Lot 9, Block 32, Soldano Avenue,
was read. _
Moved by Councilman Ortuno, seconded by
Councilman Seltzer the recommendation of
the Planning Commission be accepted with
the understanding that the house be painted
and reroofed as soon as possible.
Carried by the following vote of Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Jackson, Ortuao, Seltzer,
Memmesheimer, Jones.

Councilman Seltzer offered a resolution
entitled:

TO MAINTAIN AND OPERATE AN OFFICE FOR._

Moved by Councilman Ortuno, seconded
by Councilman Memmesheimer this resolution
be adopted as read and numbered Resolution
No. 2409, with the understanding that
the building remain dwelling -type in
appearance.

The Planning Commission also recommended
that Council grant a zone variance to Lyle
Johnson changing Lots 14 and 15j. Tract.
8506 from R-1 to R-2 zone.

Councilman Seltzer this resolution be
adopted as read and numbered Resolution

The Planning Commission advised Council
that Acting City Attorney Snidow had given
a written opinion -that a zoning variance
would be required for Frederick Be Wilkins
to operate an ambulance business from 631
Soldano Avenue which is presently zoned AMBULANCE
R-1. No action taken on this matter.
A recommendation was made by the Planning
Commission relative to school property
between Angeleno Avenue, Orange Avenue
and north of Paramount Avenue, stating
that it would be necessary for a dedication DEDICATION OF
of 1/2 of the roadway by the school for STREET REQUESTED
street purposes.
Moved by Councilman Seltzer, seconded by
Councilman Ortuno the City Engineer be in-
structed to prepare a legal description
of the location to be presented to the
City Attorney with a request that he con-
tact the school district regarding the
dedication.

The Planning Commission recommended
that Council grant permission to R. E.
Thorpe to erect a 225 sq. ft. building
on the rear of 612 Alameda Avenue, a
C-4 zone.
Moved by Councilman Ortuno, seconded
by Councilman Jackson the recommendation
of the Planning Commission be accepted.
Carried by the following vote of Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Jackson, Ortuno, Seltzer,
Memmesheimer, Jones.
' Noes: None Absent: None
Mayor Jones announced that he had been
requested to issue a proolamation relative
to the Liberty Bond Drive.
Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer,
seconded by Councilman Jackson the Mayor
be authorized to issue said Proclamation.

Memmesheimer, Jones.

A letter from the managers of the Azusa
°Rockettesg relative to the official
opening of.their ball season was read and
ordered placed on file.
A communication from: City Clerk'M. A.
Hynes was read advising Council of an
election held May 1, 19500 by the classified
City Employees at which time W, 0. Wheatley
and John H. Flannery were elected to
represent them on the Personnel Board of
' the Civil Service Commission.
A letter from the Park and Recreation
Commission recommending certain work
to be done at Memorial Park, was read
and referred to Public Works Chairman
Ortuno for action.
After discussion, it was moved by Council-
man Seltzer, seconded by Councilman Jackson
that the Park and Recreation Commission be
requested to make their monthly meetings
public and said meetings be advertised in
advance.
Virgil D. Smith reported to Council on the
purchase of fence material for Memorial Park.
Moved by Councilman Jackson, seconded by
Councilman Ortuno the Clerk be instructed
to release to the Park and Recreation Commission
the #1850 given them by the Azusa Golden Days
Committee for the erection of said fence. -

Noes: None Absent: None
Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded
by Councilman Seltzer and duly carried Council
authorize the erection of said fence as long
as it conforms to the Memorial Park outlay.
The Mayor read a letter from the Reiehhold
Chemicals, Inc., thanking Council for the
cooperation received at a previous meettng. The
letter was ordered filed.

The Clerk was requested -by the
Mayor to prepare a list of contingent
obligations for presentation to Council.
The Mayor announced that a meeting had
been held with the Azusa Agricultural
Water Company relative to obtaining an AZUSA AGRICULTURAL
easbment and also additional domestic WATER COMPANY
eater from that group.
The Clerk was asked to check the ex-
istance of a resolution authorizing the
Mayor to sign an agreement with the Azusa
' Agricultural Water Company and 'report back.
Mr. Seltzer discussed a blueprint of
proposed lines to tie in with other lines.
This matter was referred to the Public
Utilities Committee, Virgil D. Smith and
Ralph S. Brooks to report back._
City Engineer Brooks presented a schedule
of project on First Street from Dalton FIRST STREET
Avenue to Orange Avenue. IMPROVEMENT
Mr. Brooks also asked for authorization
to apply for financial reimbursement on
swimming pool expenditures from the State STATE FINANCE OFFICJ
Finan ce Office.
Moved by Councilman Jackson, seconded
by Councilman Ortuno.Mr. Brooks be
authorized to make application for such funds.
