MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF
THE CITY COUNCIL
MONDAY, APRIL 10, 2017 – 6:00 P.M.
The City Council of the City of Azusa met in Special Session at the above date and time in the Azusa Auditorium
located at 213 E. Foothill Boulevard, Azusa, CA 91702.
Mayor Rocha called the meeting to order at 6:00 P.M.
ROLL CALL: Roll call was taken by City Clerk Cornejo.
PRESENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: GONZALES, CARRILLO, MACIAS, ALVAREZ, ROCHA
ABSENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: NONE
ALSO PRESENT
Elected Officials: City Clerk Cornejo, City Treasurer Vasquez.
Staff Members: City Manager Butzlaff, City Attorney Martinez, Finance Director Johnson, Police Chief Hunt, Police
Captain Fleming, Public Works Director/City Engineer Bobadilla, Human Resources and Risk Management Director
Bragg, Economic and Community Development Director Christiansen, Director of Information Technology and Library
Services Graf, Director of Recreation & Family Services Jacobs, Management Analyst Lacasella, Utilities Director
Morrow, Recreation Superintendent Gonzales, Recreation Supervisor Gonzales, Neighborhood Services Coordinator
Quiroz, and Chief Deputy City Clerk Garcia.
CEREMONIAL
The Valley Veterans Memorial Team Honor Guard posted the colors of the flag.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Miss Alexia Flores and Miss Sophia Flores.
The National Anthem was performed by Ms. Anna Aguilar.
The invocation was given by Father Richard Vega, St. Francis of Rome Church.
A music presentation was performed by Ms. Anna Aguilar.
PUBLIC COMMENT
None given.
RESOLUTION DECLARING ELECTION RESULTS
Chief Deputy City Clerk Garcia presented the item stating that the Resolution declared the results of the General
Municipal Election held on March 7, 2017.
Mayor Pro-Tem Carrillo offered Resolution No. 2017-C25 entitled:
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA CALIFORNIA RECITING THE FACT OF
THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD ON MARCH 7, 2017, DECLARING THE RESULT AND SUCH
OTHER MATTERS AS PROVIDED BY LAW
Moved by Mayor Pro-Tem Carrillo, seconded by Councilmember Macias, and carried by unanimous vote of the Council,
to adopt Resolution No. 2017-C25:
AYES: COUNCILMEMBERS: GONZALES, CARRILLO, MACIAS, ALVAREZ, ROCHA
NOES: COUNCILMEMBERS: NONE
OATHS OF OFFICE, PRESENTATION OF CERTIFICATES OF ELECTION AND SEATING OF OFFICIALS
Mr. Arthur M. Vasquez, Sr. administered the Oath of Office to elected City Treasurer Arthur M. Vasquez, Jr. City
Treasurer Vasquez addressed the audience and gave his inaugural speech.
Ms. Elizabeth Ramirez administered the Oath of Office to elected City Clerk Jeffrey Lawrence Cornejo, Jr. City Clerk
Cornejo addressed the audience and gave his inaugural speech.
Mr. Edward Alvarez, II administered the Oath of Office to elected Councilmember Edward J. Alvarez. Councilmember
Alvarez addressed the audience and gave his inaugural speech.
Ms. Rochelle A. Betancourt administered the Oath of Office to elected Councilmember Robert Gonzales. Councilmember
Gonzales addressed the audience and gave his inaugural speech.
Mrs. Linda Marie Rocha administered the Oath of Office to elected Mayor Joseph Romero Rocha. Mayor Rocha
addressed the audience and gave his inaugural speech.
SELECTION OF A MAYOR PRO-TEM
Moved by Mayor Pro-Tem Carrillo, seconded by Councilmember Gonzales to select Councilmember Macias for the
position of Mayor Pro-Tem for the period of March 2017, to March 2018, by the following vote of the Council:
AYES: COUNCILMEMBERS: GONZALES, CARRILLO, MACIAS, ALVAREZ, ROCHA
NOES: COUNCILMEMBERS: NONE
ADJOURNMENT
The benediction was given by Pastor Jack Montoya, Calvary Chapel – Azusa.
The meeting was adjourned by consensus of the City Council.
