Present at roll call: Councilmen: Jackson, Ortuno, Seltzer, Jones, City Engineer Brooks, Acting City Attorney Snidow, Deputy City Clerk. Absent: Councilman Memmesheimer, City Clerk. City Engineer Brooks and Supt. Virgil Smith discussed the necessary features of the pump and engine required and stated that in their opinion the materials and supplies could be purchased at a lower price upon the open market. Moved by Councilman Seltzer, seconded by Councilman Ortuno all bids be rejected and the City Clerk be authorized to return all bid checks to the bidders. Carried by the following vote of Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Jackson, Ortuno, Seltzer, Jones. Virgil D. Smith to pur- chase, on the open market, a pump and gas engine, installed with necessary equipment, wiring and appurtenances, placed in practical operation in the Cit is water work system, for a sum not to exceed 7,540.50, plus tax. Carried by the following vote of Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Jackson, Ortuno, Seltzer, Jones. Noes: None Absent: Councilman Memmesheimer. M. E. McKay addressed Council regarding the application of American Legion Post #180 for a liquor license at 966 W. Third Street. He Presented a list of forty signatures of property owners within 300 feet of the proposed club- house, stating that the signers had no ob- jection to the issuance of such a license to the Legion group. No action was taken upon this matter. The Legion was advised to investigate the necessity of obtaining a new variance for their clubhouse at the above address. Councilman Seltzer advised Council of the need of repair work to the dressing rooms at Slauson Memorial Swimming Pool, as well as the necessity of purchasing bags or baskets to replace the lockers which will be removed. Carried by the following vote of Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Jackson, Ortuno, Seltzer, Jones. . Noes: None Absent: Councilman Memmesheimer A letter from W. Wolfson of the American Construction Company was read relative to his request for annexation to the City of ' Azusa. Mr. Wolfson was requested to make further investigation of annexing along railroad right-of-ways or county highway right-of-ways and advise.Council of find- ings. Mr. Walter Malone, Chairman of the Civil Service Personnel Board, requested that members of Council meet with the Board for an informal discussion of the organization of the System and a meeting date was agreed upon.
