The City Council of the City of Azusa
met in regular session at the above
time and place.
Present at roll call: Councilmen:
Jackson, Ortuno, Seltzer, Memmeshelmer,
Jones, City Engineer Brooks, Acting City
Attorney Snidow, Deputy City Clerk. _
Absent: City Clerk.
Each member present acknowledged re-
ceipt of a written copy of the minutes
of June 192 1950 and June 23, 1950, The
Mayor asked if there were any objections
or corrections to said minutes. There
being none, the minutes of June 19, 1950
and June 23, 1950 were approved as written.

IMPROVEMENTS
and Assessment District No. 1950-3 (Angeleno
Avenue between 5th and 6th Streets).
The Clerk presented affidavits of posting
and mailing for the above improvements.

Councilman Memmesheimer offered a resolution

A letter from the Azusa City Planning Commission
was read recommending the approval"of the SUBDIVISION
tentative map of Subdivision #16960 for sub. #16960
' division and annexation to the City of Azusa,
providing the subdivision ordinances are com-
plied with.
After general discussion ensued relative to
additional police and fire protection, water
supply, etc., and it was moved by Councilman
Ortuno, seconded by Councilman Jackson a
committee be appointed to investigate and
reptr t back. Thereupon Mayor Jones appointed
the following committee: Acting City Attorney
Snidow, City Engineer Brooks, Councilman
Seltzer and himself.
A letter from the Azusa Youth Program.request-
Ing use of the Legion Hall -was read and re- LEGION HALL
ferred to the American Legion and the letter
was ordered filed.
A letter from a group of Azusa City Merchants
was read relative to bike riding on the side- BIKE RIDING ON
walks. Letter was referred to Police Chief SIDEWALKS
Kendrick for checking.
A written report was submitted by Chief of
Police Kendrick relative to the application TAXI LICENSE
of Alexander Neary for license to conduct GRANTED
a taxi. business.

Councilman Ortuno said license be granted.

Relative to a request from the Azusa
Motor Bus Company for a deferment of
taxes,.a written financial statement was
presented for Council consideration. Mr.
Wooley, President of the company, was

advised that the taxes presently due
cannot be deferred, and a discussion
followed regarding the possible amendment
of Ordinance #396 to afford temporary re-
lief from the future tax burden of the company.
Moved by Councilman Seltzer, seconded by
Councilman Ortuno the matter be referred

Upon the recommendation of the American
Red Cross, it was moved by Councilman
Seltzer, seconded by Councilman Jackson
that Harlan Van Cleave be appointed life-
guard at $1400 per hour and John Loughran

be appointed assistant lifeguard-and
SLAUSON POOL
attendant at $1.00 per hour for the
Slauson Memorial Swimming Pool and the
Acting City Attorney be authorized to
prepare a resolution for said appointments.

After studying the applications for the
position of cashier, Chairman Ortuno suggest-
ed the following appointments: 011ie M.
Walden as cashier and Betty Byler as alternate
cashier.
Moved by Councilman Jackson, seconded by
Councilman Memmesheimer the recommendation
of Councilman Ortuno be accepted and the
hourly rate for the cashier be set at $1.00.

The Clerk was requested by Council to send
' letters to all applicants for these positions
advising them of action taken and thanking

of the pool be set at 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon
and 1:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

A letter from the Automotive Safety
Foundation relative to unified traffic UNIFIED TRAFFIC
regulations was read and referred to REGULATIONS
Acting City Attorney Snidow and Chief
of Police Kendrick for investigation.
Mayor Jones introduced the subject of
appointments to various boards and
commissions.
After discussion, Mayor Jones recommended
the reappointment of Lydia Wheelehan and LIBRARY BOARD
' Richard Payne to the Library. Board, REAPPOINTMENTS
Moved by Councilman Jackson, -seconded
by Councilman Seltzer the recommendation
of the Mayor be accepted.

The Mayor announced that appointments to
the Park aid Recreation Commission would

A letter from Mary Zichichi, Secretary of
the Hospital Committee, notified Council
of the following appointments to that committee: HOSPITAL
Rev. Benjamin J. Paroulek, Chairman; Art COMMITTEE
Seltzer, Joe Davis, Helen Mathews and Mary

The matter of authorizing the Personnel
Board of the Civil Service System to employ
a personnel clerk was discussed. At a CIVIL SERVICE
previous meeting of the Council and the PERSONNEL CLERK
Personnel Board, a tentative salary range
was suggested between $200 and $250 per month.

date was set for July 24s 1950.
City Engineer Brooks presented an estimate
of the widening of Angeleno Avenue between ANGELENO AVENUE
3rd and 4th Streets and the City Attorney WIDENING
was instructed to again contact the property
' owners relative to same.`
Supt. Virgil D. -Smith requested that Council
approve of an_agreement between the City
of Azusa and the State of California
Highway Department, and the City Attorney
was instructed to prepare a resolution
authorizing such an agreement.

Councilman Memmesheimer the following
requisitions be allowed: 1773-1781 LW; REQUISITIONS
2958-2972.
