Present at roll call: Councilmen: Jackson, Ortuno, Seltzer, Memmesheimer, Jones, Acting City Attorney Snidow, Frank 0. Myers representing City Engineer Brooks, Deputy City Clerk. Absent: City Clerk. Each member present acknowledged receipt of a written copy of the minutes of ' August 7, 1950. The Mayor asked if there were any objections or corrections to said minutes. There being none, the minutes of August 7, 1950 were approved as written. A communication from the Azusa Glendora Realty Board was read requesting the Council to set a date for a public hearing for the purpose of determining whether the necessity of rent control still exists in the City. Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Councilman Ortuno a public hearing be held September 11, 1950 at 8:00 P.M. and notice of said meeting be published as re- quired by law. Carried by the following vote of the Council: Ayes: Councilmen: Jackson, Ortuno, Seltzer, Memmesheimer, Jones. Noes: None Absent: None Publication of Notice Inviting Bids had been made for the following: One 1 ton pickup (painted red), one J ton pickup truck, one 1 ton pickup truck, one 2 ton truck, various ' sizes of pipe (2000 lineal ft., 4u 10 gauge; 4000 lineal ft., 60 10 gauge; 2000 lineal ft., 10" 10 gauge; 2000_lineal ft., 12" 10 gauge) one medium priced 4 -door sedan, and the City's annual tire supply. The Clerk announced that bids had been re- ceived from eight firms but were not clearly marked as to items being bid upon. Moved by Councilman Ortuno, seconded by Mayor Jones that all bids on the complete list advertised be now opened, examined and publicly declared. Moved by Councilman Jackson, seconded by Councilman Seltzer the bid of A. J. Hartzell Motors be accepted and the City Clerk be author- ized and instructed to return bid checks to the unsuccessful bidders. Noes: None Absent: None The Clerk announced that no bids had been received in answer to Notice Calling for Bids for 2000 lineal ft., 4." 10 gauge pipe; 4000 lineal ft., 6" 10 gauge pipe; 2000 lineal ft., 10" 10 gauge pipe; 2000 lineal ft., 12" 10 gauge pipe. _ Moved by Councilman Seltzer, seconded by Mayor Jones the Acting City Attorney be in- structed to prepare a resolution authorizing the purchase of pipe on the open market. DAVIS BUD MILLER'S MOTORPORT EL MONTE MOTOR COMPANY Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Councilman Ortuno bids be referred to Police Chief Kendrick and Finance Chdrman Jackson with power to act and the City Clerk be authorized and instructed to return bid checks to unsuccessful bidders. Noes: None Absent: None ANNUAL TIRE SUPPLY Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Councilman Seltzer the bid be referred to Finance Chairman Jackson for checking and re- port. Absent: None Councilman Jackson recommended the increase of insurance covering the street light standards. Moved by Councilman Ortuno, seconded by Councilman Seltzer said increase in insurance be authorized. Noes: None Absent: None A preliminary inquiry from the Board of Super- visors was received relative to possible interest in a proposed bond issue for flood control purposes. Moved by Councilman Jackson, seconded by Mayor Jones the Acting City Attorney be in- structed to advise the Board of Supervisors that the City is against such a bond issue.
