The City Council of the City of Azusa
met in regular adjourned session at the
above time and place.
Present at roll call: Councilmen: Jackson,
Ortuno, Seltzer, Memmesheimer, Jones, City ROLL CALL
Attorney Snidow and City Clerk. Absent: None
A letter signed by G. T. McCoy, State Highway
Engineer relative to the adoption of City of
Azusa Ordinance No. 433 was read and ordered
placed on file.
' Councilman Jackson reported on the gasoline
bids submitted on January 15th for the City's
annual supply of gasoline, recommending that
the bid be awarded to the Shell Oil Company,
the lowest bidder.
Moved by Councilman Jackson, seconded by
Councilman Seltzer the Mayor be authorized and
instructed to sign the contract between the City
of Azusa and the Shell Oil Company for the City's
annual supply of gasoline.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Jackson, Ortuno,
Seltzer, Memmesheimer, Jones.
Noes: None Absent: None
Councilman Seltzer offered a letter from the
Azusa Agricultural Water Company signed by D.
H. McKellar, Manager, advising Council that -the
Board of Directors had authorized the sale of
sufficient land to provide for a reservoir
site to the City of Azusa at a nominal price.
Moved and carried this letter be placed on file.
Councilman Seltzer reported on the installation
of a water line leading from the Lucky Lager
Brewery Company northerly to the Azusa Agricultural
Water Company lines.
Mr. Seltzer also reported on the proposed site
for a city dump.
Moved by Councilman Jackson, seconded by
Councilman Ortuno, that V. D. Smith, Supt. of
Water Department, be instructed to prepare an
Estimate and Agreement between the City of Azusa
and the Lucky Lager Brewing Company to be present-
ed to Council for approval.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Jackson, Ortuno,
Seltzer, Memmesheimer, Jones.
Noes: None Absent: None
Moved by Councilman Seltzer, seconded by
Councilman Ortuno that the City Attorney be
instructed to prepare a resolution commending the
Lucky Lager Brewing Company for their cooperation.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
' Ayes: Councilmen: Jackson, Ortuno,
Seltzer, Memmesheimer, Jones.
Noes: None Absent: None
It was agreed that Councilman Seltzer arrange
a meeting between the City Council and the
San Gabriel Spreading Corporation for Saturday
afternoon or late Friday afternoon, January
26th or 27th.

Councilman Jackson that the Supt.of
Water Department V. D. Smith and City
Engineer Brooks be instructed to pre-
pare informmtion on Consumerts water rates,
water production costs and outline a program TO MAKE SURVEY
to be followed in the future. This survey ON CONSUMER'S
to be presented to Council at the earliest WATER RATES
possible date.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Jackson, Ortuno,
Seltzer, Memmesheimer, Jones.
Noes: None Absent: None
City Engineer Brooks presented maps, charts
and graphs of water wells and present water
consumption. V. D. Smith gave an oral report
on the history of the present wells and storage
capacity, also an estimate of the cost of drilling
one new well stating that it would cost approximately
between fifty-five and sixty thousand dollars. He
recommended a new well be constructed immediately
in the lower basin; that plans for a new reservoir
be prepared as soon as possible and then the
re -drilling of well No. 1.
WATER WELLS
Mr. Smith offered a report on the matter of
additional water sources prepared by A. L.
Sonderegger, Consulting Engineer.
Moved by Councilman Seltzer, seconded by Council-
man Jackson this report be placed on file -
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Jackson, Ortuno,
Seltzer, Memmesheimer, Jones.
Noes: None Absent: None
Council agreed as follows: (1) To re -drill
No. 1 well; (2) To provide a new well in the lower
basin.
Moved by Councilman Jackson, seconded by Council-
man Memmesheimer that the City Clerk be instructed
to advertise for bids on three wells in place of
the two wells as authorized by Council at a
regular meeting thereof held on the 15th of January.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Jackson, Ortuno,
Seltzer, Memmesheimer, Jones.
Noes: None Absent: None
Councilman Ortuno presented to Council the
matter of requesting the dedication of Paramount
Avenue between Virginia and Jackson Avenue.
Moved by Councilman Ortuno, seconded by Councilman
Memmesheimer the City Engineer furnish the City
Attorney with the necessary information and the
City Attorney be instructed to write the California
Institute of Technology relative to the dedication
of the southerly portion of Paramount Avenue
between Virginia and Jackson Avenues, now owned
by the Institute.
Carried by the following vote of the Council:
Ayes: Councilmen: Jackson, Ortuno,
Seltzer, Memmesheimer, Jones.
Noes: None Absent: None
Moved and carried that information on Civilian
Defense addressed to Mayor Jones be referred
to Mr. Becker.
The Financial Report concerning Streets and Roads
of Cities and Counties of California for the
fiscal year 1949-50 was presented and ordered
placed on file.

Councilman Seltzer reported that the
proposed well site in the lower basin
is owned by the Azusa Rock and Sand Company
and they would consider a long term lease
at a nominal figure so long as the City can
assure the Company of adequate water supply.
Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded
by Councilman Ortuno and dulyvcarried Council
adjourn.
