BUTZLAFF, ICMA-CM, CITY MANAGER FROM: DANIEL BOBADILLA, P.E. DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS/CITY ENGINEER DATE: SEPTEMBER 19, 2016 SUBJECT: ACCEPTANCE OF PROJECT COMPLETION AND AUTHORIZATION TO FILE A NOTICE OF COMPLETION FOR THE ZACATECAS PARK PARKING LOT PROJECT NO. 66116C SUMMARY: On January 5, 2016, the City Council awarded a contract to CEM Construction Corp. for the Zacatecas Park Parking Lot Project No. 66116C. The project was completed on June 30, 2016. The proposed actions will accept the improvements and authorize Staff to file a Notice of Completion for the project. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council take the following actions: 1) Accept the project improvements; and 2) Authorize Staff to file a Notice of Completion for the Zacatecas Park Parking Lot Project No. 66116C. DISCUSSION: The completed project converted a portion of the Public Works’ material/waste yard adjacent to Zacatecas Park into a parking lot. The new parking lot includes 36 parking spaces and is illuminated with 6 solar-powered LED lights. New signs have been posted along streets adjacent to and near the park directing park users to the new parking lot. In addition, Staff will collaborate with the Police Department to launch a social media campaign that informs the community of the new parking lot. This parking lot is expected to reduce the number of vehicles parking in front of residential areas which has been a source of concerns for a number of residents in the area. The project was funded with Light & Water Public Benefit funds, Public Works Endowment funds, and Quimby funds. The project was completed within budget at a total construction cost of $76,150.
