TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
VIA: TROY L. BUTZLAFF, ICMA-CM, CITY MANAGER
FROM: ADRIAN GARCIA, CMC, CHIEF DEPUTY CITY CLERK
DATE: JUNE 20, 2016
SUBJECT: DESIGNATION OF VOTING DELEGATE AND ALTERNATE TO ATTEND THE
LEAGUE OF CALIFORNIA CITIES ANNUAL CONFERENCE
SUMMARY:
The League of California Cities 2016 Annual Conference is scheduled for October 5-7, 2016, in Long
Beach. An important part of the Annual Conference is the Annual Business Meeting. At this meeting the
League membership takes action on resolutions that establish League policy. To participate in this
meeting, each City is required to designate a delegate. This action will appoint one (1) delegate and one
(1) alternate to vote on the City’s behalf at the Annual Conference business meeting.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council take the following actions:
1) Appoint one (1) delegate to represent the City at the 2016 League of California Cities Annual
Conference; and
2) Appoint one (1) alternate to represent the City at the 2016 League of California Cities Annual
Conference.
DISCUSSION:
The League of California Cities bylaws require that each respective City designate a delegate and up to
two alternates to vote on its behalf at the Annual League Conference Business Meeting. Such
designation must be approved by the City Council and confirmation of the designation is to be provided
to the League in advance of the Annual Conference. The City may also appoint up to two alternate
voting delegates, one of which may vote in the event that the designated voting delegate is unable to
serve.
