BUTZLAFF, ICMA-CM, CITY MANAGER FROM: DANIEL BOBADILLA, DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS/CITY ENGINEER DATE: JUNE 6, 2016 SUBJECT: ACCEPT QUITCLAIM DEED FROM METRO GOLD LINE FOOTHILL EXTENSION CONSTRUCTION AUTHORITY FOR A PARCEL LOCATED AT THE NORTHWEST CORNER OF NINTH STREET AND PASADENA AVENUE SUMMARY: As part of the Metro Gold Line Project, Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension Construction Authority acquired a 70-square foot parcel located at the northwest corner of Ninth Street and Pasadena Avenue to construct a new traffic signal that would improve safety and traffic mobility at the intersection. The traffic signal and auxiliary improvements are City owned and maintained. Acquisition of this parcel is required to provide City crews the appropriate access to operate and maintain the improvements. This action will accept a Quitclaim Deed from Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension Construction Authority for the 70-square foot parcel located at the northwest corner of Ninth Street and Pasadena Avenue. RECOMMENDATIONS: Staff recommends that the City Council take the following actions: 1)Accept the Quitclaim Deed from Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension Construction Authority for a parcel located at the northwest corner of Ninth Street and Pasadena Avenue; and 2) Authorize the City Manager to execute the Quitclaim Deed; and 3) Authorize the City Clerk to record the Quitclaim Deed with the County Recorder’s Office. APPROVED COUNCIL MEETING 6/6/2016 Acceptance of Quitclaim Deed June 6, 2016 Page 2 DISCUSSION: The City proposes to acquire a parcel of real property from Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension Construction Authority. The parcel is located at the northwest corner of Ninth Street and Pasadena Avenue and is approximately 70 square feet in size. As part of the new Gold Line light rail system, the Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension Construction Authority constructed a new traffic signal and other public improvements at the intersection of Ninth Street and Pasadena Avenue. This traffic signal was required to accommodate the new light rail system, improving safety and traffic mobility at the intersection. Acquisition of this parcel is required so that City staff may operate and maintain traffic signal equipment and pedestrian curb ramps constructed as part of the Metro Gold Line Improvements Project. On May 25, 2016, the Planning Commission adopted a resolution finding that the acquisition of this parcel would be in conformance with the General Plan.
