This appreciation has come during the last week and I'd like to wait a while longer to see if he -means that confidence; therefore I decline the nomination and nominate Karl Jones.'" The Planning Commission recommended that the application of the American Brake Shoe Company for a Special Use Permit to construct, operate and maintain a forge shop on property described as a portion of Lot 68 of Subdivision #2, Azusa Land and Water Company, be granted. Mr. Salisbury, Attorney for the American Brake Shoe Company, was present and addressed Council stating that there would be no noise ' or odors in connection with the operation of this plant. He also said that they would employ about one hundred families, high type men, and that they hoped to employ some local unskilled labor. Councilman Seltzer said he was familiar with this type of operation and knew there would be no contamination or noise where upsetters and presses are employed and would be happy to welcome this company. The minutes of the regular meeting of April 7th, 1952 and the adjourned meeting of April 9th, 1952 were approved as written. That there should be better control against nuisances in this location. Mayor Jones welcomed the American Brake Shoe Company and said that he hoped their stay in Azusa would be long and enjoyable. Mr. Dennis Parks requested permission to move in a house of approximately 950 sq. ' ft. and locate it on property described as a portion of Lot 1, E. 751 of the W. 15510 Azusa Foothill Citrus Tract. After some discussion it was moved by Councilman Seltzer, seconded by Council- man Memmesheimer Mr. Park's request be granted with the stipulation that only one house on this lot be used for living quarters,' that as soon as the above mentioned house is ready for occupancy, the building now occupied, and lm ated on this lot, be vacated. Also that Mr. Parks file with the City Clerk a letter agreeing to the requirements set forth by the Council. 7:30 P.M. 223 DENNIS PARKS GRANTED PERMISSION TO !vDVE HOUSE AND LOCITE IT ON PROPERTY DESCRIBED AS Lot 1 (E.75' of the W. 155'—Azusa Foothill Citrus Tract.) Absent: None The Planning Commission recommended that the application of Mary B. Sewell for permission to divide property described as Lot 1 and the easterly a of Lot 2, Block D, Azusa Heights ' Tract, into two parcels and permission to erect an 816 sq, ft. dwelling on the north lot, be approved. Moved by Councilman Seltzer, seconded by Councilman Memmesheimer the City Attorney be instructed to draw a resolution accepting the recommendation of the Planning Commission granting permission to divide the lot accord- ing to the plot plan and upon adoption of this resolution Mrs. Sewell be granted per- mission to erect an 816'sq. ft. dwelling. Stark be granted permission to erect two 705 sq, ft. houses on property described as Lot 207 and 208, Tract 10660. Councilmen Jackson and Memmesheimer said they would like to see 800 sq. ft. houses - ' built. Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Councilman Jackson the recommendation of the Planning Commission be denied and the matter referred back to the Planning Commission with the recommendation that the size of the houses be increased to 800 sq. ft. STARK TO ERECT TWO 705' HOUSES,DENIED 9DIA� _ _ � 1 CITY HALL, AZUSA; CALIFORNIA, MONDAY, APRIL 21, 1952 The Planning Commission recommended that Council take under consideration the,prob- lem of an alley between Duell and Second Streets in the West 300 block. ' Mr. DeRoach addressed Council relative to this matter. Mayor Jones advised Mr. DeRoach that the City would be unable to improve this property for alley purposes until the land has been deeded to the City. Mayor Jones reported on the Hearing on the rubbish problem stating that Mr. Avadesian, who holds the contract for the collection of rubbish, had been instructed to have cards printed describing the type of rubbish to be collected and the reasons why some rubbish is not collected. Mayor Jones appointed Councilman Hernandez to work with the Heads of City Departments in an effort to clarify some of -the problems in connection with the collection of rubbish; to contact the owners of apartments and courts and endeavor to secure their cooperation in using the city service. Mayor Jones made the following statement: °Gentlemen: In naming the commissioners for this term, I am again making an all out effort to establish that unity of purpose on this Council which is so necessary to the welfare of this City. We have been elected by the people to serve ALL the people. The taxpayers and citizens have every right to expect from each member enough cooperation with the other members to expedite City business and pro- mote the happiness, welfare and progress of our citizens. "After we have discussed the appointments I am going to ask for a unanimous approval. One vote on all." The City Attorney suggested that the Council take calculated risk in postponing the re- pair of the roof until October, thus eliminating possible break in service during peak months. Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Councilman Seltzer the City Engineer be instructed to prepare plans for the repair or entire replacement of the roof and submit to Council. Noes: None Absent: None Councilman Memmesheimer offered a resolution amending Resolution No. 2600 as follows: RESOLUTION NO. 2617 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA AMENDING SECTION 2 OF RESOLUTION NO. 2600 OF SAID CITY COUNCIL. 7:30 P.M. 229, RESOLUTION NO. 2616 ADOPTED RESOLUTION NO. 2617 ADOPTED WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Azusa did on the 7th day of April, 1952 adopt Resolution No. 2600, which among other things, ordered certain omissions, decreases, alterations or changes in the work proposed to be done, as set forth in a report on the_ proje at filed under the Special Assessment Investigation, Limitation and Majority Protest Act of 1931; and WHEREAS, certain clerical errors were made in Section 2 of said Resolution No. 2600 and it is desirable to correct ' the same; NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Azusa, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AND ORDER that Section 2 of said Resolution No. 2600 be amended to read as follows: Section 2. That omissions, decreases, alterations or changes in the work proposed to be done shall be made as follows: A decrease in the quantity of excavation; the omission of the construction of curbs and gutters in front of Parcel 130; the omission of the construction of curbs, gutters and driveway aprons in front of Parcels 129 and 131; and the addition of construction of a driveway apron in front of Parcel 42; that said omissions, decreases, alterations or changes will not increase the estimated cost by more than one-tenth, or at all.
