BUTZLAFF, ICMA-CM, CITY MANAGER FROM: DANIEL BOBADILLA, P.E., DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS/CITY ENGINEER DATE: MAY 2, 2016 SUBJECT: ACCEPTANCE OF PROJECT COMPLETION AND AUTHORIZATION TO FILE A NOTICE OF COMPLETION FOR THE SIDEWALK AND ADA IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT SUMMARY: On May 18, 2015, the City Council awarded a contract to Kalban, Inc. for the Sidewalk and ADA Improvements Project No. 601662-14; funded by the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). The project was completed on February 25, 2016. The proposed actions will accept the improvements and authorize Staff to file a Notice of Completion for the project. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council take the following actions: 1)Accept the project improvements; and 2)Authorize Staff to file a Notice of Completion for the Sidewalk and ADA Improvements Project No. 601662-14. DISCUSSION: The completed project repaired uplifted/damaged sidewalks and curb ramps in compliance with the latest standards for ADA compliance. The project focused on areas that qualified for CDBG funds. The areas addressed were bounded by Foothill Boulevard on the north, First Street on the south, Azusa Avenue on the west, and Rockvale Avenue on the east. The final improvements included 62 ADA curb ramps, 7,069 square feet of sidewalk, 177 square feet of asphalt concrete and 146 linear feet of curb and gutter. Additional improvements were made to the northwest and northeast corners of Azusa Avenue and Fifth Street to accommodate the existing parkway drains and light bollards. APPROVED COUNCIL MEETING 5/2/2016 Notice of Completion – Sidewalk and ADA Improvements Project May 2, 2016 Page 2 Although the project improvements were completed on February 25, 2016, the Community Development Commission (CDC) of the County of Los Angeles needed to conduct their contract and labor compliance review on March 29, 2016. The CDC approved the improvements and provided a file review clearance letter on April 18, 2016.
