BUTZLAFF, ICMA-CM, CITY MANAGER FROM: JOE JACOBS, DIRECTOR OF RECREATION AND FAMILY SERVICES DATE: MARCH 7, 2016 SUBJECT: ACCEPTANCE OF AMENITIES AT SIERRA MADRE PARK IN THE ROSEDALE COMMUNITY SUMMARY: Sierra Madre Park is one of the last of the (10) neighborhood parks to be developed in Rosedale, located on Sierra Madre Ave. and Orange Blossom Way. This park serves the northwesterly portion of the Rosedale community. The constructed amenities at Sierra Madre Park were inspected and have been completed in accordance with the approved plans, and are now ready to be accepted by the City Council. This action accepts the construction improvements. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council take the following action: 1)Accept the construction improvements at Sierra Madre Park. DISCUSSION: Sierra Madre Park is located at the northwest corner of Sierra Madre Ave. and Orange Blossom Way. The Park features a full size basketball court, picnic tables, restroom facilities, an open grass play area, and accompanying landscaping. The Park also features two bronze plaques, mounted on a prominent rock, one of which commemorates the discovery of a Tongva Gabrieleno food processing site uncovered during grading operations in 2005, and the other commemorates the original Tongva village site near the mouth of the San Gabriel Canyon. Staff and Azusa Land Partners (ALP) (Rosedale Land Partners’ predecessor) have worked with representatives of the local Tongva tribe in designing the plaques, as well as their inscriptions. APPROVED COUNCIL MEETING 3/7/16 Acceptance of Sierra Madre Park March 7, 2016 Page 2 After review and inspection of the construction, Staff and the City’s Landscape Architect have determined that Sierra Madre Park has been constructed in substantial compliance with the approved plans. A (6) month warranty period will be in effect following the approval by the City Council. FISCAL IMPACT: There is no General Fund impact with the approval of the recommended action. The long term maintenance cost of Sierra Madre Park is funded via the Community Facilities District (CFD), Account #37-25-420-000-6493, established as part of the Rosedale project. The cost to the landscape maintenance contract for Sierra Madre Park is $9,547.20 per year.
