The City Council of the City of Azusa
met in regular session at the above time
and place.
Present -at roll call: Councilmen: Jackson,
Hernandez, Seltzer, Memmesheimer; Jones,
City Engineer Brooks, -:City Attorney Snidow,
and Deputy City Clerk. Absent: City -Clerk,
Each member present acknowledged reoeipt
of a written copy of minutes of the regular
meeting of June 16, 1952. The Mayor asked
if there were any objections or corrections
to same. There being none, the minutes of
June 16, 1952 were approved as written.
The Clerk announced that five bids had been
received in answer to Notice Inviting Bids
for the purchase of a deep -well turbine pump
for City Well No, 3.
Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded
by Councilman Jackson and duly carried the
bids be now opened, examined and publicly
declared:

and publication of notice inviting bids.

After discussion, Council agreed unanimously
that the proposed.change to C-1 zoning on C-1 ZONING ON
San Gabriel Avenue should extend from Sixth SAN GABRIEL AVENUE
' Street south_to and including the fifty foot
corner lots on the south side of Fourth Street.
Moved by Councilman Hernandez, seconded by
Councilman Memmesheimer the matter be referred ATTORNEY INSTRUCTED
to the City Attorney for preparation of an TO PREPARE ORDINANCE

Mr. Hollis Critchlow addressed Council relative
to a private sewer connection at his home on
Orange and Duell Avenues, stating thatcther
people are now desirous of using this sewer SEWER CONNECTION -
line which was originally installed by and ORANGE AVENUE
and paid for by two property owners for their
personal use.
After discussion, it was moved by Councilman
Memmesheimer, seconded by Councilman Seltzer
and duly carried this matter be referred to
the Public Works Department and the Engineering
Department with power to Act.

Rev. Barnhart of the Calvary Lutheran Church
requested information relative to the
possibility of purchasing city -owned property

located on Fifth and Virginia Avenues, and was

advised that this matter would.be placed on
the agenda for the next regular meeting of
Council, July 219 1952.
A communication from the Planning Commission
was read recommending that the tentative
plan of Tract No. 18318 (Hadley -Cherry) be
approved.
Council discussed with Mr. Hadley various
changes that had been made and certain street
arrangements shown on the tentative map.
Moved by Councilman Seltzer, seconded by
Mayor Jones the tentative map of Tract No.

A recommendationof _ the- Planning Commission
was read that John-Abdelnour-be permitted
to build five 836 sq, ft. houses on Lots 45
and 49 inclusive on Soldano Avenue, Mountain
View Tract.
Moved by Councilman Jackson, seconded by
Councilman Memmesheimer the recommendation
of the Planning Commission be approved.
Carried.by the following vote of the Council:

Seltzer, Memmesheimer, Jones.

The Planning Commission recommended that the
request of William Worseley to erect a 950
sq, ft, residence at 930 N. Orange Avenue
be granted.
Moved by Councilman Seltzer, seconded by
Councilman Memmesheimer the recommendation
of the Planning Commission be approved.

The City Engineer was instructed to prepare
a report before Council action is taken on
a Planning Commission recommendation that the
following streets be made Mgjor Streets:
Eleventh Street between Azusa aid Vernon;
Virginia Avenue between Foothill aid Third;
Pasadena Avenue between Eleventh and Broadway;
and Fourth Street between'Pasadena and the
Westerly end.
' Relative to a request of the Park and Recreation
Commission that Council authorize the pasting
of a sign at the southeast corner of the ball
diamond at Memorial Park indicating that the
diamond at that location is reserved for
children 12 years and under for use as a soft-
ball diamond only, it was moved by Councilman
Jackson, seconded by Councilman Seltzer the
Park and Recreation Commission procure the
desired sign and have the City billed for same
in the usual manner, said sign to be erected
by the caretaker -of the park.

Council discussed the condition of an unpaved
road between 10th and 11th Streets west of
Vernon Avenue. A petition containing 18 UNPAVED STREET
signatures protesting the condition of the NEAR VERNON AVENUE
street had previously been filed with Council.
Councilman Hernandez reported upon an
investigation of this street, stating that it
' is privately owned.
Moved by Councilman Hernandez, seconded
by Councilman Seltzer this matter be re-
ferred to the Police Commissioner and Chief
with instructions to contact the Azusa -Transfer
Company and notify them of public,nuisance.

A communication from L. Grant Robinson and
Al C. Smith was read relative to a sum of
money due the City of Azusa for the additional
cost of installation of'water mains in Tract TRACT #16298
#16298. Two checks were attached in the amount
Of $180.00 and $577.09 which they offered as
pgment in full -of their obligation to the
City.
Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded
by Councilmai Seltzer Council accept the
compromise amount offered as full settlement
' of the entire bill.

A contract between the City of Azusa and the
Community Ambulance Service covering emergency
AMBULANCE CONTRACT
ambulance service for the City was offered
wherein the City agreed to pay the sum of
$75.00 per month for services rendered.

by Councilman Seltzer the Mayor be authorized
to sign the contract and the City Ch rk to
attest to same.

The cost of installation of a telephone TELEPHONE AT

Council discussed the cost of installation WATER LINES -
of various water lines in'Paramount Tract PARAMOUNT1RACT
with no action taken.
A communication from Austin Rental Equip-
ment was read requesting that the City
provide rough grading at 8th Street and
Pasadena Avenue. A representative of this
company was assured that the City mould take
care of the matter.

The batter of the possible dedication of
Palm Drive was discussed with Mr. Charles DEDICATION OF
Shelton, owner. The City Engineer reported PALM DRIVE
that at present the street is substandard and
not in suitable condition for dedication. The
possibility of contacting the owner of adjoin-
ing property for cooperation in providing a
turn -around was discussed.
Moved by Councilman Jaokson, seconded by
Councilman Seltzer and duly carried the
matter be continued and referred to the City
Engineer for investigation and report.
The employment Cf new substitute personnel
at the swimming pool was discussed and the SWIMMING POOL
City Attorney was instructed to prepare a PERSONNEL
resolution covering same.

A survey of the business men made by the
Police Department relative to parking limit
time was read and ordered placed on file.
A letter from Chief Kendrick was read re-
commending that Council take action to re-
voke the City License of Pedro A. Camps
(Peters Cafe),_247 Dalton.Avenue. This re-
commendation -was based upon the fact that Mr.
Camps, wit# 19 other suspects, were found
guilty of gambling at the above location.
The communication also stated that the Chief
of Police had requested that the Board of
Equalization revoke the -on sale beer license
' issued to this cafe.
Moved by Councilman Jackson, seconded by
Councilman Seltzer the City Attorney be in-
structed to.prepare order to show cause issued
to Camps with a hearing set for July 21, 1952
and that the same be served.

The minutes of the meetings of the Library
Board and the Azusa'City Planning Commission
were ordered placed on file.
Councilman Seltzer discussed with Council the
advisability of advancing"money to the Park
and Recreation Commission for use of the Base-
ball Commission in paying for the umpiresand
other salaries during July snd August, the
anount being approximately $280.00 for that
period.
Moved by CounciLnsz Jackson, seconded by
Councilman Memos shein»r the amount of $280.00
be advanced to the Park and Recreation Commission
for the purpose of defraying said expenses, balance
to be returned and amount spent to be accounted
for.
