JOHNSON, DIRECTOR OF FINANCE DATE: JULY 16, 2018 SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF NEW 12,000 LB FORKLIFT FOR CENTRAL STORES/RECEIVING BACKGROUND: The City’s Central Stores Division currently uses a 1994 Hyster forklift with 8,000 lb. lifting capacity, to unload incoming freight deliveries, move inventory in and out of the warehouse, and to move heavy electric transformers, switches, and copper cable around the City Yard. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the City Council take the following action: 1) Approve the issuance of a purchase order to Pape Material Handling of City of Industry, CA, in an amount not to exceed $73,175 for the purchase of a 2018 Hyster H120FT Lift Truck 12,000 lb. capacity. ANALYSIS: The current Hyster forklift is over 24 years old and has fallen into a state of disrepair that requires frequent maintenance and repairs in order to keep it operating safely. The forklift is no longer capable of lifting its original 8,000 lb. capacity, due to the deteriorating condition of the hydraulic system. Some of the padmount transformers and the larger reels of copper cable weigh well in excess of 8,000 lbs. The piece of equipment is no longer suitable for use and is to be added to the City’s surplus list to be sold at public auction. FISCAL IMPACT: Monies for this purchase have been budgeted for FY 2018-19 under the following account numbers: Capital & Infrastructure Replacement Reserve Fund ($36,587.50), and 31-40-702-935-7140 ($36,587.50).
