The meeting was called to order at 5:37 p.m. by David Santellan, Pam Mercado led the
group in the Pledge of Allegiance.
PRESENT: Pam Mercado, Joe Torres, David Santellan, Ruben Barrios and Carlos Udria CALL TO ORDER
STAFF: Joe Jacobs, Director of Recreation and Family Services
Roy Chavez, Park Crew Supervisor ROLL CALL
ABSENT:
Minutes of April 15, 2004 were approved as written on a motion by Carlos Udria,seconded MINUTES APPROVED
by Pam Mercado.
Consent calendar items #1-8 were approved with standard fees, conditions, and or CONSENT CALENDAR
modifications on a motion by Pam Mercado, seconded by Carlos Udria. ITEMS:
1. Request use of Memorial Park room 5 on June 5, 2004 by Elena Sanchez for baby SANCHEZ MPK 6/5
shower from 1:30 p.m.-6:00 p.m.
2. Request use of Pioneer Park with moon bounce on July 10, 2004 by Veronica Leroy LEROY PIONEER PARK
for birthday party 9:00-8:00 p.m. 7/10
3. Request use of Memorial Park room 4 on May 26, 2004 by Cecil Watts for open WATTS MPK ROOM 5/26
house from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m.
4. Request use of Memorial Park lounge on May 13,2004 by Samuel Ogren from 6:30 OGREN QUALITY

8. Request use of board games on June 4, 2004 by Brenda Henderson (Gladstone St. HENDERSON BOARD
School) from 8:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. for school carnival. GAMES 6/4
Staff updated Commission on all Recreation and Parks Division projects and programs. STAFF UPDATE
1. Commission appointment interviews will be scheduled for Thursday,June 3, 2004.
Candidates include Rossana Helbert, John Sanchez and Condie Lopez. Staff to
contact interested applicants to schedule (5) minute interviews.
2. Albert Prado's commission position will be filled in September in conjunction with
term expiration for all commissioners as per discussion with Deputy City Clerk Candy
Toscano. •
3. Commissioner Torres initiated discussion on trees and plaques placed in parks in
recognition of an individual. His concern was "overkill" and park space resembling
"a cemetery". Dicussion and possible solutions to be addressed at a later date.
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:21 p.m. ADJOURN
The next meeting scheduled for Thursday, May 20, 2004 at 5:30 p.m.at the Memorial NEXT MEETING 5/20
Park Recreation Center.
