The meeting was called to order at 5:56 p.m. by David Santellan who also led the group in CALL TO ORDER
the Pledge of Allegiance.
PRESENT: Condie Lopez, David Santellan, Rossana Helbert, Pam Mercado and Joe Torres ROLL CALL
STAFF: Joe Jacobs, Director of Recreation and Family Services Department
Roy Chavez, Parks Supervisor
ABSENT: Carlos Udria
Minutes of February 3, 2005, were approved as written on a motion by Joe Torres, MINUTES APPROVED
seconded by Rossana Helbert.
Consent calendar item #1-4 were approved with standard fees, conditions and/or CONSENT CALENDAR
modifications as noted on a motion by David Santellan, seconded by Pam Mercado. ITEMS:
1. Request use of Memorial Park room 4 and 5 on June 18, 2005 from 3:00-1 1:00 RECIO MPK RM48.5 6
p.m. by Maria Recio for a quinceanera. QUINCEANERA
2. Request use of Veteran's Freedom Park on April 16/23 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. VETERAN'S FREEDOM
for a park celebration for children. PARK CELEBRATION
3. Request use of Memorial Park room 4 on Tuesdays from 3/29/05 to 6/14/05 from CHAMPION YOUTH M
5:00-8:00 p.m. by Champion Youth dance program. 4 DANCE PROGRAM
4. Request use of Memorial Park gym on Sundays from 4/3/05 to 6/12/05 from 10:00 CHAMPION YOUTH M
a.m. to 12:00 p.m. by Champion Youth for basketball program. GYM BASKETBALL PRO
Staff updated Commission on all programs and projects. STAFF UPDATE
Dog Park site tour took place prior to the meeting with Commissioners Mercado, Helbert DOG PARK SITE TOUR
and Torres, dog park advocate Sandy Soto and staff.
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:41 p.m. ADJOURN
Next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 3, 2005, at 5:30 p.m. at the Memorial NEXT MEETING 3/3/05
Park Recreation Center.
FIREWORKS DICUSSION POINTS AND POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS
Joe Torres • Inform public as to dangers of fireworks (illegal)
• Get information to the people
• Minimum fine of $500.00
• Fireworks wholesalers ante up $$'s for public information as to dangers
illegal fireworks and altering safe and sane fireworks.
• Contributions to the community are invaluable from safe and sane sales.
Pam Mercado • Minimize days of operation from (5) days to ( ) days (call El Monte
compare)
• Proactive education/information distribution should came from booth vend
• Firework stand to raise money to offset education costs
