The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regu-
lar session at the above time and place.
Present at roll call: Councilmen: Jackson, Her-
naadez, Seltzer, Memmesheimer, Jones, City f
Attorney Snidow, City Engineer Brooks, City ROLL CALL
Clerk M. A. Hynes. Absent: None.
Each member present acknowledged receipt of a
written copy of the minutes of the previous
meeting of March 23, 1953. The Mayor asked if
' there were any objections or corrections.
There being none the minutes of March 23, 1953 MINUTES APPROVED
were approved as written.
The Clerk announced that two bids had been
received in answer to Notice Inviting Bids on
the printing of legal notices.
Moved by Councilman Seltzer, seconded by Council-
man Memmesheimer and duly carried the bids be BIDS ON LEGAL PRINTING
now opened, examined and publicly declared.

Moved by Councilman Seltzer, seconded by Coun-
cilman Hernandez that lowest bid be accepted and
check be returned to uneuccessful bidder.

Mr. V. D. Smith reported on the price of trucks
to be replaced in Water and Light Departments.
The price was approximately 02300-2500 on a ton
pickup truck.
Moved by Councilman Jackson, seconded by Council-
man Memmesheimer that City advertise for bids on
this equipment and specifications be furnished
by the Superintendent of Light and Water. Bids
to be opened May 4th and to include Item #1 -
6 cylinder a ton pickup and Item #2 - 8 cylinder
* ton pickup truck.

REPORT ON PURCHASE OF
TRUCKS
KREM'S REQUEST
Mr. Krems asked that license be granted to operate
"KIDDIESTOWN" on the Market Basket lot, which later

is to be moved to the rear of said lot. This opera-
tion is to be independent of the Market and is to
consist of about 6 rides with attendants present.
License to be separate from Market and under Mr.
Krems.
Moved by Councilman Seltzer and seconded by Coun-
cilman Hernandez this matter be referred to the
Police -Department to report back at the next
meeting of Council.

The Planning Commission recommended the request of
Natividad Chavira to relocate a dwelling, to be

erect necessary tents, effective immediately, for
a period of time not to exceed six months; said
permission subject to revocation and subject to
the approval of the Fire Chief.

' Mr. Victor Jabson addressed Council relative to
a change in the building code. City Attorney
Snidow stated that Mr.Paige was expected. How-
ever, due to his absence Council agreed to table
this matter until the next regular meeting of
Council.

City Attorney Snidow reported to the Council on
the meeting of the Public Utilities Commission
regarding the proposed Edison Rate Change. He
stated that approximately 47 attorneys were pre-
sent as interested parties. However, the testi-
mony will not be ready until sometime in June.

Personnel Board's action on the matter was sus-

City Attorney Snidow advised council that there
were street proceedings of record, under the
1911 Street Improvement Act, that had been can-
celled but not officially abandoned and suggested
that this be done in order to eliminate confusion
at some future date.
A letter of resignation by Mr. Luther Zink was
read by Mr. Jones.

The question of the manner of transferring funds
from the General Fund, to the "City Funds Invest-
ment Account", was discussed.
Mr. Virgil Smith reported on the radio service
for the street department cars. No action was taken
the matter to be given further consideration.
The contract for furnishing lamps to the city was
discussed and Councilman Memmesheimer moved that
the City Clerk be instructed to advertise for bids
' on electric lamps, contract to be for one year.

cations to be furnished by the Superintendent Smith

A communication was read from the "City Merchants"

ting bicycle riders on the sidewalks in the busi-
ness area of Azusa.

man Jackson that this matter be referred to the
Police Department.

The Library Board submitted a list of proposed
projects. It was agreed this matter be placed on
the agenda for the April 20th meeting.
A communication from Marlowe R. Madison was read
requesting that Council approve the appointment of
Mr. Hugh Gerharz as a call man on the Azusa Fire
Department. This appointment would be subject to a
six months trial basis and it is understood that
he will receive no pay for fire calls while on duty
in his regular position with the city.

pertaining to Civil Defense. Moved by Council-

this letter be referred to Civil Defense Director
David E. Eccles to report back.
The trimming of the palm trees in the Cerritos
tract was discussed and it was unanimously agreed
to include the trees with the action taken re-
garding the trees on Azusa Avenue.
City Attorney Snidow reported on the possible
compilation and printing of a Municipal Code
book. A copy of the code book from the City of
Santa Ana was submitted and the necessity for
such a book was discussed.
Moved by Councilman Jackson, seconded by Council-
man Hernandez that further consideration be given
the matter at the next meeting.

Recommendation made by Police Commissioner Memme-
sheimer that all full time employees of the Police
and Fire Departments receive one half days pay for
the sixth day of work. Further consideration will
be given this matter upon receipt of further infor-
mation regarding the financial expense entailed.
The necessity for additional patrolmen for the
Police department was discussed and it was moved
by Councilman Memmesheimer, seconded by Council-
man Seltzer that the City Clerk request the
Personnel Board to advertise for applicants to
fill vacancies of four patrolmen with a starting
rate of $244.00 per month and to hold the exam-
ination as soon as possible.
