The City Council of the C.ty of Azusa met to
hear protests in the matter of declaring
public nuisance for weeds, rubbish, etc.

Mayor Jones asked the City Clerk if there
were any written protests filed in this
matter. The Clerk responded there were
none. The Mayor then asked if there were
any oral protests. There were none.
Moved by Oouncilman Memmesheimer, seconded
by Councilman Hernandez, and duly carried,
Superintendent of Streets proceed with work
as set forth in Resolution No. 2791,

The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular
session at the above time and place.
Present at Roll Call: Councilmen: Jackson, Hernandez
Seltzer, Memmesheimer, Jones
City Attorney and City Clerk.
Each member present acknowledged reciept of a
written copy of the minutes of the meetings
of June 9, and June 15th, 1953. The 41ayor
asked if there were any corrections or ob-
jections to same; there being none, the
minutes of the meetings of June 9th and 15th
1953 stand approved as written.
Mayor Jones announced this was the time and
place fixed for the hearing of protests,
appeals or objections in respect to the
assessment and street lighting work on
Azusa Avenue under Resolution No, 2665,
City Clerk presented the affidavits of
publication, mailing and posting.
Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer,
seconded by Councilman Jackson and
duly carried, that avidavits of publi-
cation, mailing and posting be approved
and affidavits ordered filed.
Mayor requested Clerk to state if there
were any written -protests, there being
none, the Mayor asked if there were any
oral protests in respect of said assess-
ment of street work. There were no
protests.

Resolution offered
' WHEREAS, the City Engineer of the City of
Azusa..has_heretofore filed in the office of the
City Clerk of said City an assessment and dia-
gram for that certain work or improvement in
said City done under and pursuant to the Im-
provement Act of 19112 Division 7 of the Streets
and Highways Code of California, and resolution
of Intention,_Resolution No. 2665, adopted by
this City Council on the 28th day of July, 1952;
and
WHEREAS, after the filing of said assess-
ment and --diagram the said City Clerk has, as
required by law, given notice of the filing of
said assessment and of the time fixed in said
notice for hearing by this City Council, and
affidavits of publication, posting and mailing
of such notice have been approved by this City
Council and are on file; and
Section 1. That said hearing has been duly
held; -that each and every step in the proceeding
prior to and including the hearing has been duly
and regularly taken; athis City Council is satis-
fied with the correctness of the,assessment, the
diagram, the proceedings and all matters relating
thereto, and all protests, objections, or appeals
be and the same hereby are overruled and denied, and
WHEREAS, at the time and place fixed in

such noticQ-a hearing was duly held by this
fifty Council at which no written appeals, pro-
tests -or objections were presented, none having
been filed, and all persons desiring to be
heard thereon were heard, and this City Council
gave all persons present an opportunity to be
heard in respect of any matter relating to
said work or improvement, to any act or deter-
mination of the Superintendent of Streets or
the City Engineer of said City in relation
thereto, to the contract for said work or the
performance of said contract, to the correct-
ness of said assessment or said diagram, or to
any other act, determination or proceedings of
said Superintendent of Streets or said Engineer,
or to -any matter relating to said work. -the ass-
essment district or the proceedings therefor; and
WHEREAS, all such persons desiring to be
heard.have-been heard by this City Council, and
this City Council is fully informed -in the
premises; ,

NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City
of Azusa, California_, DOES HEREBY FIND, RESOLVE,
DETERMINE AND ORDER as-folloWgk.
Section 1. That said hearing has been duly
held; -that each and every step in the proceeding
prior to and including the hearing has been duly
and regularly taken; athis City Council is satis-
fied with the correctness of the,assessment, the
diagram, the proceedings and all matters relating

Several members of the audience took part in the
discussion that followed. By request, Officer Mosley
addressed the Council and stated various reasons
for his resignation.

Councilman Seltzer stated he would like to make two motions
as they were so closely related,
Moved by Councilman Seltzer, seconded by
Councilman Hernandez -City Attorney draw
resolution calling for immediate discharge
of Albert Kendrick from the Police De-
partment and authorizing the --Mayor to call
upon the County of Los Angeles Sheriffts
department to furnish an officer to manage
the department until a chief is appointed;
with receipt of assistance from the Sheriff's
office, Rolf Magnell to be appointed -Acting
Assistant Chief at a salary of $400,00 per
month, in the interim the ranking officer is

City Engineer Brooks submitted sketches and
drawings on the proposed Community Center
and Library with recommendations for a
barbecue area in the park, proposed changes
in City Clerk's office to enable the Finance
Officer to have an office in that part of
building.
Engineer Brooks reported on progress of weed
elimination in city lots and stated lots'had
been posted again for owners to have weeds
eliminated.
The possibility of making a change in the
heating system of the auditaium was discussed
with no action taken.
