in order to operate launderette on property
adjacent to present Market Basket shopping

approving the application was made by Planning
Commission in meeting -'of Sept. 16th, 1953.

at meeting held Sept. 16th,1953.
Moved by Councilman Memmesheimer,-seconded by
' Councilman Hernandez,_ recommendation of Plan-
ning Commission be accepted, variance from C-1
to C-3 use zone be granted to person operating
business, Mr. Loomis. Variance to expire upon
sale or termination of business. Attorney to
be instructed to draw resolution accordingly.

Mr. Roy Freeman requested permission to move
A 720 square ft. dwelling and a combination
garage -workshop to 214 N. Aspen Avenue. This
is located in M-1 zone. The applicant desires
to use the garage building for a small wood-
working shop and possibly a small machine shop,
the existing building on the property to be
used for storage. Granting of request approved
by Planning Commission in meeting of Sept. 16th.
Councilman Seltzer entered Council chamber and
was seated.
Moved by Councilman Hernandez recommendation of
Planning Commission be accepted subject to
' building department specifications and Council-
man Memmesheimer agreed to second the motion if
Councilman Hernandez would amend the motion to
include the -shop building only. Amended motion
approved by Councilman Hernandez,

Regarding the Petitions for 1911 Act improve-
ments on SouthLouiseAvenue and South Orange
Avenue, work is_being awaited from O'Melveny
and Myers whether or not these could be' -com-
bined as one district in order to spread the
cost of incidental expenses.
An insufficient number of names were submitted
on a petition for 1911 Act improvements on
streets between Alameda and Pasadena Avenues
and between First and Fifth Streets.
Councilman Jackson stated the need for a
footbridge across Dalton wash on Azusa Ave.
Moved by Councilman Jackson, seconded by
Councilman Seltzer, and duly carried,
City Engineer be instructed to investigate
matter of constructing a bootbridge across
the Dalton wash on Azusa Avenue and report
at next meeting. _
Councilman Memmesheimer offered the following
Ordinance for first reading:

The matter of improving the extension of 10th
Street west of Vernon Avenue was discussed.
Mr. Gil Ross addressed the Council on behalf
of the industries now located on that street.
Adequate water supply for fire protection wag
stressed as was the acute dust problem which
has plagued the homes in that neighborhood.
On the question of water supply,,Mr. Ross
stated that the business men of that area
would agree to furnish and pay for all ma-
terials if the city labor would install the

Councilman Seitzer-wished to amend the motion
to include the paving of street on same basis
of costs and that all city standards be met.
After discussion Councilman Seltzer withdrew
amendment.

Mr. Ross stated that upon inquiries which he had
made, the paving and improving of the street could
be made at no greater cost than eleven cents per
square foot.
Councilman Memmesheimer moved that, in view of
the 11¢ per sq. ft. price stated, the Engineering
Department shall check and see if it can be done
at this price and if the 11¢ maximum is not ex-
ceeded in the split of labor and materials costs,
a contract shall be entered into whereby the city
will furnish labor and the property owners will
furnish materials, and upon completion the
street will be dedicated to the city.
Motion carried unanimously.
Councilman Hernandez stated his wish to change his
previous vote, being in accord with both pipeline
and paving being completed.

Recreation Department. Motion withdrawn.
Motion made_by Councilman Memmesheimer letters
be referred to Personnel Board to be con-
sidered in the appointment of applicant most
suited to various requirements for this type
of work which includes more than steno-
graphic work. Motion withdrawn.

be requested to create classification for
clerk for Recreation Department and confer
with Recreation Director in forming job
requirements.

Councilman Hernandez reported on proposed
revised schedule for rubbish collection. He
stated Mr. Avedesian submitted schedule based
on an 8 day_collection basis, with an increase
in pay required to give this additional service.
This change would be enacted upon the cancella-
tion of present contract. The new schedule
would be followed for two months without addi-
tional pay in order to enable the council to
make new financial arrangements for an added
rate.

cilman Seltzer and duly carried, matter be
continued at the next meeting.

of SEptember 11,1953 submitted.
Letter read signed by Commissioner of Public
Works recommending James Ayon for position of
Groundsman -Gardener at third step of pay scale
$258.00 per month beginning October 1, 1953.

ordinance.

Councilman Seltzer reported on bids previously
submitted for printing of Code Book of Ordin-
ances and stated low bid submitted was that of
Canyon City News.
It was moved by Councilman Seltzer, seconded by
Councilman Memmesheimer, that the low bidder,
The Canyon City News, be awarded the contract
for printing of the Code Book of Ordinances,
stipulating that the paper used shall be 25%
' rag -content or better and that the page price
as quoted will be a firm price and shall be
.held to mean printed pages. Three copies
shall be permanently bound and the 100 copies
to be,lbose bound shall have a binding of the
best quality as quoted. Bid check and bonds
to be'returned to the unsuccessfulybidders.
