HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - February 20, 2003 MINUTES OF THE AZUSA PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION-February 20, 2003 The meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. by Pam Mercado who also led the group in CALL TO ORDER the Pledge of Allegiance. \,__JSENT: Joe Torres, Carlos Udria, Pam Mercado, David Santellan, Johnny Sanchez, ROLL CALL Tiffany Adamson and Mary Sandlin STAFF: Joe Jacobs, Director of Recreation and Family Services Roy Chavez,Acting Parks Supervisor GUEST: none ABSENT: none Minutes of February 6, 2003 were approved as written on a motion by Mary Sandlin, MINUTES APPROVED seconded by Carlos Udria. Consent calendar items#1-4,#6 8.7 and#9 8.10 were approved as written with standard CONSENT CALENDAR fees,conditions,and or modifications as noted on a motion by Mary Sandlin,seconded by ITEMS: David Santellan. #5, 8 and 11 were denied or tabled for additional data on the same motion. 1. Request from Margaret Alarcon to use Memorial Park room#5 on Saturday,March ALARCON MPK ROOM 5 8, 2003 from 12:00-5:00 p.m. for baby shower. 3/8/03 12-5 2. Request from Jeanette Sena to use Memorial Park room#5 on Saturday,March 15, SENA MPK ROOM 5 2003 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for birthday party. 3/15/03 11-5 3. Request Northside Park ball field on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 5:00- AALL NSPK FIELD 6:30 p.m. for t-ball practice by Azusa American Little League. 6. Request use of Memorial Park stage area Tuesday evenings 8/5,8/12,8/19 and 8/26 AZUSA LIGHT&WATER for City of Azusa Light and Water sponsored Concerts in the Park series 5:00-9:00 CONCERTS IN THE PARK p.m. . AUGUST 2003 TUES. 7. Request (12) tables for Saturday,April 5, 2003 for Azusa Senior Center Rummage AZUSA SENIOR CENTER Sale. TABLES 4/5/03 8. Request use of Northside Park or Memorial Park ball field 2/25, 2/26, 3/4, 3/5, 3/11 AALL NSPK/MPK FEB. & and 3/12 for Azusa American Little League practice from 7:00-9:00 p.m. MAR/03 7-9 P.M. 9. Request by Christbridge Academy to use gymnasium for home basketball and/or CHRISTBRIDGE MPK volleyball games from 7:00-9:00 p.m.upon availability during the 2"d and 3`d weeks GYM 7-9 of March. 10. Request from the Azusa Golden Days Committee to use the lounge for board GOLDEN DAYS MTG. meetings February to November 2003 every 4th Wednesday from 6:30-9:00 p.m. ROOM 4T"WED. 11. Request from Joachim Brenner and Gladstone High School JROTC to use Pioneer GLADSTONE H.S. Opark on April 26, 2003 from 2:00-10:00 p.m. for fundraising dance. BRENNER PIONEER 4/26 Staff updated Commission on all projects and programs. Commission received status STAFF UPDATE report on Northside Park athletic field from Roy Chavez. Report was requested in an effort to monitor soccer use with respect to turf and facility wear. "ti5mmission also voted unanimously on a motion by Mary Sandlin and seconded by Carlos JAAF CONTAINER Udria to allow (20') storage container for JAAF to be placed on a concrete pad constructed by JAAF under the supervision of Park Supervisor Chavez,and that the container is to remain onsite 7/28/03 -11/28/03. it is to be stored else where during other periods. A brief contractual agreement addressing all points will be drawn shortly. FYI Parks Division had recommended other options citing aesthetic and logistical reasons. After discussion, it was viewed that other options were not feasible, citing cost, practicality and timeliness. ' fltaddition, Commission has asked to review Little League contracts at 3/6/03 meeting. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:40 p.m. ADJOURN Next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 6, 2003 at 5:30 p.m. at Memorial Park. NEXT MEETING
