The meeting was called to order at 5:03 p.m. by Chairman David Santellan who also led CALL TO ORDER
the group in the Pledge of Allegiance.
PRESENT: David Santellan, Condie Lopez, Pam Mercado, Mary Sandlin, Carlos Udria, ROLL CALL
Joe Torres
STAFF: Joe Jacobs, Associate Director of Recreation and Parks
ABSENT: none
EXCUSED: Johnny Sanchez
Minutes of December 20, 2002 were approved unanimously on a motion by Joe Torres, MINUTES APPROVED
seconded by Mary Sandlin.
Consent calendar items 1-3 were approved with standard fees, conditions, and or CONSENT CALENDAR
modifications to applications as noted; motioned by Mary Sandlin, seconded by Condie ITEMS:
Lopez.
1. Request to use Memorial Park Recreation Center room #5 on May 4, 2002 from AZUSA L&W DEPT
9:00 a.m. to 1 1:00 a.m. by Azusa Light and Water Department for Composting ROOM 5 5/4/02
Workshop.
2. Request use of Memorial Park Recreation Center meeting room for Azusa Jr. All AZUSA RAIDERS
American Football Board of Directors meeting Wednesday,January 9 and January LOUNGE 1-9 &23-02
23 2002 from 7:00-9:00 p.m.
-3. Request use of Memorial Park northwest ball field on Sat. and Sun., January 5- MPK NW BALL FIELD 1/°
February 28,2002 from 8:00-10:00 p.m.for Azusa Pony Baseball Winter Baseball TO 2/28/02 8-10PM
by Ross Montes.
Staff updated Commission on ongoing programs and Department activities. STAFF UPDATE
Commission concerns included the following: COMMISSION
1. Commission to receive opportunity for input on parkland in any future proposal CONCERNS
for Monrovia Nursery Development (Sandlin)
2. Pioneer slide is not operational and in need of repair or replacement. (Udria)
3. Island at Sierra Madre and Vernon requires maintenance, it is infested with
gophers.(Lopez)
Staff will address concern 1)with City Manager and 2 &3)with Parks Division and report
back to Commissioners at next meeting January 17, 2002.
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:23 p.m. ADJOURN
Next meeting is scheduled for Thursday,January 17, 2002, at 5:00 p.m.at the Memorial NEXT MEETING
Park Recreation Center.
