HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - July 19, 2001 - PRC MINUTES OF THE AZUSA PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION -JULY 19, 2001 The meeting was called to order at 5:08 p.m. by Johnny Sanchez, who also led the CALL TO ORDER up in the Pledge of Allegiance. PRESENT: Condie Lopez, Joe Torres, Mary Sandlin, and David Santellan ROLL CALL STAFF: Randy Noriega, Associate Director of Recreation and Parks ABSENT: Harry Hoke EXCUSED: Donna McCormick, Johnny Sanchez Minutes of the July 12, 2001 no quorum. MINUTES APPROVED Consent calendar items#1-15 and late agenda items#16-17 were approved with CONSENT CALENDAR standard fees and conditions, and or modifications to applications as noted; ITEMS: motioned by Mary Sandlin, seconded by Joe Torres. 1. Request from Barbara Gomez to use Day Camp room and kitchen on GOMEZ MPK RM#5 9-8- September 8, 2001, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for a baby shower. 01 2. Request from Thomas Avila of the Azusa Police Department to use AZPD NSPK BALLFIELD 9- Northside Park south field on September 9, 2001, from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 9-01 p.m. for a softball tournament. 3. MPK ups, chairs and tables on August 7, 14, 17, 18, 21, 2001 from 7:00 to STAGE EQUIPMENT 8- 9:00 p.m. for Concerts and plays. 14,17,18,21,2001 14. Request from Yevonn Teran-Khwajazada to use Pioneer Park with a KHWAJAZADA PIONEER portable restroom on August 11, 2001 from 12:00 to 8:00 p.m. for a PARK 8-11-01 birthday party. 15. Request from Antoinette Alexander to use moon bounce with water slide ALEXANDER M P K and baby pools on August 4, 2001 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. for BOUNCE 8-4-01 birthday party. 16. Request from Glendora Alliance Church to use Pioneer Park on 9-2-01 GLENDORA ALLIANCE from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. CHURCH PIONEER PARK 17. Azusa Recreation Department to reserve Slauson Pool on 9-21-01 from ARD SLAUSON POOL 9- 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. for a Middle School Dance. 21-01 Commission Discussed Ballfield Use- Items #3 and #7 were discussed at length. The BALLFIELD DISCUSSION Commission is concerned that the ball fields not be reserved and rented to outside softball promoters thus leaving no fields available for residents to use for picnic use. It was motioned by Mary Sandlin and seconded by Joe Torres and approved unanimously to allow one rental date per month to any one outside softball/baseball tournament promoters or teams per month. If multiple organizations or teams are requesting the facilities that will be available for rental on a rotating schedule with each organization on team getting equal access. All adult organized rental use must provide the City of Azusa with a certificate of iditional insured with a two million dollar aggregate limit. All participants must be �vered by a primary medical insurance provided by the promoter or team. If the participant has a primary medical insurance then the promoter provided insurance shall act as a secondary coverage. The medical covered limit shall be the same as medical coverage provided by the Azusa Recreation Department for its Adult Sports teams. The Azusa Recreation Department provides its teams the Southern California Municipal Athletic Federation players medical benefit coverage. This coverage is zero deductible with a $500.00 limit per player per year. If SCMAF P.M.B.F. is not available then a standard medical coverage with a deductible no higher than $250.00 and a cap no lower than $10,000 must be provided. All insurance proof must be submitted with full payment prior to the rental. Other Business: It was motioned by Mary Sandlin and seconded by David Santellan OTHER BUSINESS approved to provide Donna McCormick with a momentum of her service to the Azusa Parks and Recreation Commission at the September 17, 2001,Azusa City Council Meeting. Staff will handle the details. Staff updated Commission on ongoing and upcoming Recreation activities. STAFF UPDATE With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:00 p.m. MTG.
